i dont want to push any buttons but bob fenner is a professional as are his crew so I would probably believe them

Once again just because someone has their own website or writes a book doesn't mean they're right or even know what they're talking about. There are plenty of hobbyists that know a lot more than the so called professional but have never written books or have their own websites.

By the way if you read some of the posts on WetWebMedia you'll really have to question if they're professionals. It's a good place for some reference buy not always the best advise.

FW dips do nothing but stress the fish out more. It's like picking up a person off of a winter city street and instantly putting them in the desert for a period of time then back to the city street.

i have had very good luck breaking alot of rules especially QT ing . i really have had good luck getting my fish into my reef tank asap so yhey can be at ease like they were a week ago in mother ocean . i do know the problems that can come from this and dont always advise to do this but its worked very well for me . i feel the less stress on the fish the better chance it has to live .the only fish that i cannot keep alive is the choati leopard wrasse ,i've had six and they are tough to keep alive . they eat swim sleep etc and just die ,best left in the ocean . i must admit that i have five comming in two or three days and im getting all water parameters perfect , lets hope that they will live . i buy them in the shipping bag and get them into a great home asap . i almost feel bad to be purchasing them so they can succumb to whatever it is that kills them ,all other wrasses do very well in my tanks . i have 35 of them. never had a parasite problem ,but i guess i've been lucky ! does any one know why the choati leopard's are so difficult to maintain ? have copopods ,live brine, PE mysis ,and flake that i feed 3 to 4 x daily very small amounts .every body else loves it the choati's eat it and slowly die within 1 to 3 weeks at best . if anyone can help contact [email protected] or pm me thanks again

as an update - All the fish have made it so far (knock on wood), one clown hosted the RBTA... The other one I am worried about. She is more pale than the other who hosted and just swims in one place a day at a time (different place each day) and frequently has the long clear string hanging from her. The tang is eating algar but refuses to eat mysis or flakes I feed but is active and colorful. The wrasse eats a little mysis but swims alot and is colorful... and the clowns are on hunger strike.. Any advice? I have been turning off all power heads while feeding, soaking in garlic for 10 or more mins..

Try and be patient it's only been 24 hours though I'm sure it feels longer to you. :)

What kind of algae are you feeding the tang?
Remember these guys aren't used to being in your tank yet, nevermind a human who approaches the tank a couple of times a day to dump in food!! All in good time...

Regarding the clown with the stringy poop...are you only feeding algae, mysis & flake? Perhaps try some of the Marine One Pellets or some fresh seafood from the supermarket chopped into tiny pieces? Until it starts eating you may not know if the poop is an issue.
Many folks also put the food into the tank using a net..hopefully eventually the fish will fear the net less and welsome it's appearance..makes getting any troublesome or sick fish out when necessary.

Cowfish, I respectfully disagree with what you posted.

Hey Kathy,

If you could point me in the direction of some data I'd appreciate it. I come from an empirical/clinical research background and have learned that experience is only valuable if it includes corrective feedback and an objective mind. Otherwise "experience" just means a person is repeating the same mistakes over and over. I'm always willing to learn something new, but I have difficulty believing that the marine biologists, aquarim curators, well known hobbyists that I've met and others are wrong just because someone says so. I'd like to see some proof to refute what I think I know. Not trying to be a pain in the @$$, like I said, I'm always willing to learn something new. I just want to see some current, objective information. I'm not using research and articles to support my opinion, I'm trying to use facts to determine my opinion.

Also, neither I nor others are claiming that the freshwater dip is a panacea. Rather I think that it eliminates enough of certain types parasites to allow the fish some breathing room. If the fish is relatively healthy it will then be able to fight off the parasitic infection itself (given the appropriate environment). I've used freshwater dips with tangs that were badly infested with Ich. A week later they were free of visible parasites and their behavior indicated a return to good health.

good health is the best cure , no stress is the best chance you can give em to survive . and when they succumb to disease it s our fault for not having the proper knowledge before we take the fish out of the ocean which is thier home to begin with !

Raise your hand if you lost fish to freshwater dipping. I haven't lost one. Dubbs hasnt lost one as far as I know and it sounds like this is a routine thing for him.

Just balls down to everyone is right and everyone is wrong. Just like ich conversations. No one can agree and these topics go nowhere. Just because dipping works for PDubbs or anyone else on this forum and you dont agree with it doesnt make that method wrong. If freshwater dips kill livestock every single time thats one thing but as far as I have read on these posts or in articles I have come across,I have not encountered anytime where a fish has died instantly in the bucket. I have a yellow tang that I freshwater dipped on back to back days for 2 minutes each time when it had a severe case of marine ich and its perfectly fine today. That was a year ago. We are all experts at our own succesful methods and just because someones method disagrees with your own doesnt not make that person wrong. I dont do freshwater dips anymore but thats because I have gotten smarter and run everything through a QT tank now. Dipping is no longer my primary method of disease treatment but I wont rule it out either due to my own personal success with the method.

I got the fish from saltwaterfish.com - i have had good buys from them before.. I have been soaking mysis shrimp in garlic extreme - also tried some flakes and spurlina brine shrimp.

I got two from saltwaterfish.com - One I lost over the weekend - it was the one I was concerned about. I have a 75 gallon and about 100 pounds of live rock, and I never found the body.. I have 4-5 shrimp in the tank too so I did a 15% water change. I will test for nitrates too. The surviving clown has white lips and is just swimming in one place. Before the first one was lost - the surviving one hosted my anenome and looked more colorful. Now he is just swimming in one place and looks a bit pale.

The one that is gone already? I tried looking, there is no way I could find him without pulling apart the entire tank.. he's about an inch long.. it would destroy the water quality for the other fish

I'm not sure what white lips is, can you post a picture? If you can remove the fish do so. It may have something, could possible be Brooklynella which usually kills pretty fast.

The other one was probably eaten by the shrimp or hermits, if you have any.
