hey guys, new to the hobby and forum. Glad that i found the forum. very fun to read and everyone seems so nice. feels more cozy and homey than RC. i just swapped all of my freshwater stuff out and starting a saltwater. just want to get some opinions and stuff from you experts.

55gal, 260watt pc with moonlight, 3 maxi-jet 1200 with tsunami wavemaker, trying to find a sump for it that fits in the akward stand for the 55gal. anyone can help on that? a red sea berlin turbo skimmer, 80lbs of live carib sand, need live rocks, if anyone can help with that? mag drive 7 return pump. 2 extra new hagan 802 powerheads that im not using. and the rest of the essentials like hydrometer and such. going to get a uv soon.

so am i good to go? what else do i need? any help on the sump and the rocks? any feedback is appreciated. thanks guys. hope to learn more from you guys.

Is your tank Reef Ready? If not you'll need an overflow kit if you want to use a sump. Also check your mag 7 constantly, there's been several cases where people have rust on the screws of mag pump. Rust will cause hugh damage if not destroy your whole tank. Oh, welcome to MR and good luck.

Samsky, thanks for the reply. what do you mean by reefready? do you mean predrilled? if that's what you mean, then i'm gonna be using a hangon overflow. i think the quietflow 600 from ebay. is that good? i'll pass on the sump. i need one with 3 compartments. that looks like a wet/dry. i have a brand new amiracle wet/dry sitting at home that i decided not to use. if anyone's interested in that. but thanks for the info on the mag, i'll keep an eye out for that. also, anyone know where is a good place to get the baffles for the sump(when i find one that fits)? thanks

Yes predrilled, if it's not predrilled you can have your tank drilled at some aquarium store or you can get an overflow kit......if getting an overflow kit, you want to get one that that has equal flow rate of the return pump or maybe a little higher. You would want to have the equal amount of water return to the display tank and the equal amount of water going back to the sump. As for wetdry sump, u can always take out the bio balls out and make it as a sump. If you want glass baffles, you can go to most glass shop and have them cut you it to the size you want.

i don't think you'll be needing UV if setting it up as a reef.

the answer to the question about calcium reactors depends on what you'll be trying to keep.

do you have a heater for your tank?

:D They work, just make sure the rate of overflow match your return pump. A timer would be nice, to turn on and off your light at certain time of the day. They have in stores like Target, K-mart, and similar store should have it.

Calcium reactor and chiller, you might not need at this time. They are heavy investment and depends on what you keep in your tank. But if you have the $$$$ calcium reactor would be nice. Keeps the tank more stable, stability = growth. :D, with good water condition

I don't use a UV

welcome to Manhattan Reefs,

it's like that compared to RC because all the regular posters here know each other. If we have not met each other personally then we know some one who knows some one ;) It's like a big dysfunctional reefing family.
We even do non-reefing things together now :D
