Big myth that alot of reefers seem to be following IMO:

Your fish grows to the size of your tank
or/aka
Tangs are happy in a 40G

Myth #2
SPS need to be acclimated thru drip

false, Its actually better to let your SPS out in the air and let them slime up, and then put them in. Ive done that w/ all my corals, even my WC colonies and never a prob. it might seem weird at first but most of the shallow water SPS's are exposed to the air for hours at a time sometimes

MYTH: I need to do water changes every week

TRUTH: BULLSHIT !

you need to do them EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY !!!! :p

wait... never mind... just being an ass.

Truth: Your reef requires all your attention for it's entire life, and without proper care, will suffer.

yeah.

BIOLOGICAL MYTH: Algae growth is dependent/responsible due to excessive nutrients present in your system.
FACT: Some algae are able to completely get most of the building blocks for growth through photosynthesis.

BIOLOGICAL MYTH: Most of the components of a sand bed are fish poop and such nasties excreted by the organisms of the aquarium.
FACT: The major component of a sand bed is bacteria. All the particles that you see imbedded in the sand are bacterial colonies. Fish poop is quickly broken down by these bacteria and converted into even smaller "poop" by the bacteria.

MYTH: A bare bottom tank will have no algae problems, nitrate or phosphate problems, nor will it require as much maintainance as a DSB tank.
FACT: Algae springs up in BB tanks. It requires maintainence and REALLY needs to be designed properly. Additionally, just like all reef tanks, grazing by tangs and clean up crews (snails and hermits) is absolutely required to manage algae (due to the fact posted at the top of this post).

That Nano tanks are much harder to keep than larger tanks (40+ gallons)... my 16g is pretty much as simple as you can get to take care of (not SPS though...) and with an ATO system I don't worry about much besides a 5-10% water change each week.
