Great to hear about the xenia- I love a tank full of movement (which is why I love softies, LPS, and my 'natural' style LR). Did you slide the plastic under after, or let them grow onto the plastic?

btw- how are those blastos that you've got? I am planning to buy some at some point, but I haven't read up on them yet. Lighting?

At this point it seems that they have actually attached themselves to the plastic (easy to remove).
Yes! those are blastos from Platinum Reefs, Dennis was great with my purchase. If you 're interested sometime after the swap a small group of us might be ordering from them again. Lighting req. are med to low. They seem very tough & colorful.

Natural system seems like the only way I can do any tank - do you find your tank to be stable in terms of no mini crashes?

inline- I love platinumreefs.com, Dennis has been nice enough to hold my order for me until I get my tank finished. (he's got a sale now that orders over $300 get free S&H and a ton of LPS are on sale) I really want to get a yuma from him- but at $100 or so a head I think I should wait until I get my zoos, shrooms etc in before adding too much at once! Thats a great looking blasto btw.

The rock I got from TBS is pretty much as natural as you can get (but you have to like that look, otherwise stay away)- I am going to have to trim the hell out of the macro pretty soon, and it's only been running 3 weeks! They ship in water and I haven't had much, if any, dieoff- I really had so little of a cycle that my Ammonia never really spiked at all! I really need to get my cleaner crew (hopefully I get the 2nd half of my order this week)- so that they can take care of the algae on the sand. The tank pretty much looks like something you'd see on the ocean floor- which is what I was going for - I would imagine that a large tank would look incredible (though you'd probably have a lot of bad hitchhikers to get rid of).

I do have to feed it alot - phyto and stuff, not too bad though.

Anyone tried using a MH setup on a 12g Nano?

Anyone tried using a MH setup on a 12g Nano?
Maybe a 20,000k pendant setup made by PFO.

look on nano-reef.com - the people there are OBSESSED w/ MH lighting! I've seen MH lights on 7 gal bowfronts! Its funny- I'll read posts on wetwebfotos.com or other sites and feel fine w/ my PCs...then I'll be on nano-reef and feel almost obligated to upgrade to a new MH system!

Thanks Jim!
I guess its dumb luck.
Never had interest in reef keeping till a office co-worker got me hooked.
Usually kept very large aggressive fishes in my 55g before wifey made me loose it.

Aquatraders 211w 17" model, however i did an extensively mod to it.

First the cooling fans were junk, actually they were a joke. They were crazy noisy and sounded like a damn wind tunnel. Replaced them with 2 ultra quiet ones from Jameco electronics also am considering replacing the ones that's in the ballast case.

Second mod was to the magnetic ballast, replaced with an electronic one from hellolights, ultra quiet, not sure if i even need the cooling fans on. The aquatraders bulb is supposed to be 20k but its more like a 14 or 15k.
So i have now 3 outlets for the lighting unit: 1 MH, 1 Actinics (36w total), 1 for the cooling fans.

The actincs doesn't look too good on, i usually leave them off. Total watt is 175 for 8 hrs.

Why did i choose such a junky MH setup? size. my tank is just about 17" long. perfect fit.

Actually the aquatraders unit is not really that bad as people make it out to be, it just needs some correcting and proper guidance
