Anyone using it on a reef tank? I know montepora and tony from reef exotics are using it. Anyone else? It can filter something as small as 1 micron. Will it help to get rid of ick?

unless you can filter out all the free swimming ich parasites before they find your fish the diatom filter won't work for that purpose. this would be really hard to do.

if you were running a big uv 24/7 and the diatom your water would be clean.
I'm not sure if that would be good for the coral though.

are you having an ich problem?

I bought one from Tony last week I've yet to put it together I plan on using it to clean my sump, in the rocks etc I have 3 large tangs that are POOP machines!

best defense against ich is water quality, I think the filter will help with water quality but I dont think it will do it alone

I have a 40g tub which I use for qt. I had a blueface died on me while in qt. It is in my garage. Michael thanks for the offer. Frogman, I can't agree with you more. I have been qt my new fish. I think I brought the ick in from a RBTA. Jhale, I really don't have any extra room for a uv. My tank is 400g with a 80g sump.

I bought mine from Deanos and hadnt really used it. On Saturday i woke up to find my tank water completely green so i plugged it in and the water was clear in no time. generally i use it when i do a monthly clean up of the tank, I put it in then stir up the water, Its probably overkill for what i am using it for but man the water sparkles when its done!

I doubt you brought ICH in on a RTBA.
I dont Q/T fish I think it's more stressful.
PBT are notorious for getting ich. PBT come from a very high salinity 1.028 and a pH of around 8.3 8.4
when they are shipped the PH drops I've seen them as low as 7.9 inthe bag.
depending on how long the wholesaler/LFS took to drip him = lots of stress
they just dont ship well
is he eating? finely chop some ginger root soak it in RO/DI water overnite in fridge, add a couple of drops of the water to your fish food along with some garlic the ich seems to fall off the fish withinh a day.

It is eating like a pig. Flakes, chopped clams and picking the live rocks. His ick is not that bad. Will see. As far as the RBTA, I think that clowns at the store that were hosting it had ick and I bring it into my system with the water.
