Hmmm, I wonder if my wife's new childrens oncology hospital at Montefiore Medical Center needs a tank for the waiting area or for the kids playroom?

Hmmm, I would say it will probably take 100 members to donate 50 bucks or 50 members to donate 100 bucks and we could do it up nicely. I bet we could even get the corps to donate some salt, lights, food etc to make it run well.

We could even put an engraved wood plaque on it saying who donated to the cause etc.

Oh, BTW, it could also be a tax write off if we incorporated as a non-profit.

I'm in - I think a good location would have to be central to everyone, Since this is MR- how about the medical center near the UN building (which one is that?)

Sounds like a pretty cool idea- and I bet we could get at least 100 members to donate $100 bux, hopefully more if we give this a few months to build up some momentum.

If we do it right we could even set up a small frag shop to help pay for ongoing expenses...

The hospital's next to the UN are NYU medical center on 33rd and 1st, the VA on 23rd and 1st, and Bellevue on 28th and 1st.

There is also the NYU childrens hospital, the kids would love it, :D .

All, I'm sure would accept the tank, the trouble is the upkeep, i.e. who's in charge.

I think that NYU radiology/oncology department already has a salt water tank, they have it in the waiting room for cancer patients, :( . As we all know fish tanks have a great calming effect on us all.

jumping ahead and saying a tank was set up keeping it looking good would be the challenge. you would not want a tank covered in algae film all the time. even if someone were to clean it once a week there would have to be someone at the sight who could do the daily chores, cleaning, feeding, etc.

I think putting it in a childrens hospital is a great idea.

i myself am going to donate a 30g reef to presbyterian hospital at 168 and broadway in manhattan.the only hold up was that i didn't have my tools to build the stand etc...
now that i have my tools back my plan is all go, i'm also down with this plan. i was going to be the one cleaning the tank at presby because i work in the area and can stop by many times a night.

Jose you work up there?
I have a bunch of friends who work in that hospital.
They are mostly PT's so you probably would never meet them.

yeah, probably not. that's my main response area. 90% of the pts i pickup want to go to that hospital.the 30G will be setup in the pediatric ER.they had one before (FW i think)and used to pay someone to come and clean it, but they still had algae problems and too many fish deaths so they decided to shut it down.i spoke to the head of the department and she allowed it only because i'll be there much of every week and i'll be handling the maintenance (free of charge of course).i think hospitals have funds which they can dip into for things like this. i was told to bring receipts and i would be reimbursed.if we do setup a tank in a hospital we might only have to donate our time for maintenance.

Great idea guy ,,i say IIIIIIIIII,i love the donation part ,veryone is up for helping ,,but i not sure about this ,all the work you guy are doing ,is great ,and i do as well ,(donation ),but in these time where money is tight ,why not open a small reef store ,and get ppl to donate after for this cause ,,im sure we can handle a store ,if we are going through donating tanks, time and money ,why just donate money and not get back ,opening up a small store is a full time job ,and is donating tanks and setting them up is as well ,,why not try to hve an income where the store gets the doantions and is a tax right for the store ,and which means ,,,,,we will give some of our members a job ,
bring in money for working and MR ,,,and still donate tanks ,,,i knw the old place i worked for did the same thing and worked out fine ,,since he had workers ,during the day they could just maintain the tanks ,yet still have some income ,
