Tank Crash - total loss.

Dead yellow tang.


Ultra Life Reef Products, Red Slime Remover did this. ! spoon per 15g. I have 100g. Put 6.5 spoon fulls. Next day everything died.

I did 4x 30g wc in the past 2 days. Total loss.

I am quitting the hobby. Forever, or now - I dont know.

Id like to thank this forum and everything you did for me in helping me through the past 1.5 years.

Special thanks to Lazibonez, Daaznmofo, thatguy96, and Dean (I will never doubt your golden words ever again ).

Matt, I am so sorry to hear about this. I felt responsible since I suggested this product to you as a quick fix to your cyano problem. It has worked for me and many people that I know. I recalled you had a series of tank problems just before, Although nothing could be pinpointed as the cause, now that I think about it, would it be a possible chemical leeching from the man made foam background that you have that started the degrading of your tank? And that adding this red slime remover caused a chemical reaction that killed your whole tank, or it could just have been a bad batch as you suspect. I dont know what to say... starting over might be an option . You can count on me for lots of free corals.

How big is your tank?? I used to use this stuff and only put in 4 spoonfuls on a 250 gallon system.. That's total water volume 125 display and 125 sump..

i've used that product before with no issues.... I even overdosed it once and never had the tank crash. Its gotta be a bad batch! sorry to see what has happened to the tank

I'd say it was a reaction with your foam backround.. That is just my opinion though...

Matt, very sorry for you loss. Such a horrific catastrophic loss of life.
I was also a Red Slime Remover user. Never an issue here either. I won't say it was the foam, but that sure does appear to be an external factor that could be the cause.

Hope the hobby doesn't lose you, but I'd sure understand. Awful way to go.
