Hello,

Is anyone using the RKL? I'd like a controller to monitor temp (and shut off/on metal halide and fan's), to control my MH light, and to use the optional float switch as an ATO..

Does anyone have this controller? I've read very good things about it on RC, and through their website but I'm a ridiculously inexperienced with the controller aspect of this hobby.

poor customer service? I have been on their forum on RC for a bit, and they seem to be pretty nice overall.

They don't talk about orders or replacement stuff really though...

While I don't have the RKL I do have the RK2 and I'm happy. Using it for 1 year with no problems and I'm using to control all of the equiptment you mention and then some.

I just got the RKL L1 and I like it so far, have it controlling the lights and temp (heater only) but will shut the lights if the temps get to high. You'll need to get the RKM-SL1 or SL2 if you want to use the float switch as an ATO, unless you purchase the RKE L2 or L3. No issues programming it, a little learning curve from the AC Jr. though.

Josh, maybe I lucked out but I thought the customer service folks responded quickly to most emails, longest wait was the next day.

I've had a couple of technical issues which they weren't helpful in resolving (I identified a problem with one of their devices and it remains broken). Also I have had issues getting an item repaired. Finally, they have not called me back despite repeated requests for help.

The product is fine, but I think they need better people skills.

On a side note, whoever designed their network adapter and built in web server needs a lesson in effective RRD design and networking, it is pretty lame thus far.

despite the fact that the rkl only covers 4 channels, it's a pretty good system for the price. mine controls my lights, turns on my fan if it gets past a certain temp, turns off my halides if tank gets too hot..

pecan, I was wondering the same thing, so I looked into a bit.. The RKL L1 used to be $150, and the RKL L2 was $209... so that made sense. You were getting the 70 add on for only $59. They have since dropped the price on the RKL L1 to $99, so it's actually cheaper to buy the two separately.

Hope that helps.

Bad marketing on their part. You go to their website and you wonder how they can list prices like that.
I bet that 2 out of every 5 order the $209 because they want a little more then the basics and think that they are getting a better base unit or that the L1 was not upgradable.

Josh,

I have been doing research into these two units..... If you had to do it over again and they were both available at the time of your purchase, which unit would you buy and why.

Thanks in advance,
