All shots were taken on or very near Oahu. The only other island I was on was Coconut Island, where the marine lab for Univ of Hawaii at Manoa is located.

Different parts of the island look totally different! That was one of the things that made me feel like my two weeks there were just not enough time... There was so much to see! I didn't even really venture inland for the hiking or biking! I mostly stuck to the water. (big surprise...)

One thing swimming with all these tangs and butterflies taught me is that none of these species of tangs or butterflies will ever be in my tanks again - I could never keep them as happy and healthy as they are here. I will never contribute to their harvest. I'm sticking to really small fishes from now on!

He was maybe 8 to 10 inches and FAT! He actually was swimming with a friend some of the time - i was following for pics and got a little too close at one point - he turned toward me and flashed his teeth, and I stopped dead in the water and turned away when he started to turn away. i had gotten my shot. left him alone after that!

Tangs don't mind being followed the same way! on the other hand, they're faster!

Bob - after seeing them so big, i would think the ones you have are so cute! I did see some recruits in shallower waters, but none of the tangs....

I just feel like I don't want to take my tank apart in a few years when my fish are too big for my system. But then again, I've got only a 75 gal - so they would outgrow my system far earlier than they would outgrow yours....

Yeah, I love these fish.. When my house is finish being built I will start a 1000 gallon build for my tangs... I only will have acantherus tangs.. They get big but look nicer as they get bigger..
