I was just curious about what dosage and duration of interceptor you guys are currently using to treat red bugs.

When interceptor dosage first became popular there was an 8 hr dosage that had to be completed 3 separate times at relatively low dosage. As more people gained experience dosing this med, it became evident that overdosing just didn't happen (at least I never heard of it) Consequently, more hobbyists dosed greater amounts.

My personal experience over the last 3 years is that 1 large dose for at least 24 hours does the trick. In my 120gal I added 1 whole adult dog pill and the next day I do a 30% WC and change carbon. I would lose some of my crabs and shrimp but not all. It's like some of them build a tolerance to the stuff after experiencing a couple of dosages? :D

Now to find someone that can sell me some "Interceptor Pills".
ANYONE?

I have already removed my 1 shrimp (Harley), and will be getting my hermits next. They are easy since they are so greedy.lol

The initial treatment used a third of what Rich experimented with and it was for 3 treatments 7 days apart for each treatment with 30% water changes. Rich seems to be indicating that he only needed one treatment for 24 hours vs the 3 individual treatments at 6 hours each.

So, I got all the hermits that I could find in the past 4 days. And threw them into the fowlr where they have been happy scavenging since there where none before they were added.
My Harlequin didn't make the transition.;( I thought that because the hermits, snails, starfish, and anemone were living in the fowlr there was no more copper. Evidently I was mistaken, the poor Harley died right away.;(
Anyway, this morning I dosed the tank with a whole large dog pill. So far I see no change in any of the animals. Tomorrow morning I will do a 30% w/c, and throw on 1 of my phos reactors with carbon in it.

So it has been 3 days since I did the recommended 30% water change, and ran the carbon.
I haven't really seen a change on my corals. So do I do another dose, or does it take time for the corals to respond to the first treatment?
I want to add my crabs & shrimps back in, but I worry that # 1 I have to do additional treatments, and #2 that it is to soon to add the crabs & shrimps.
Any advice is greatly appreciated......

Rich,

Not sure if you're following this thread any longer or not.

I dose 3x the recommendation on a 300g prop system and it seems to work well - I do the 8 hours (give or take).

Difference for me is I do this every three months regardless if I see them or not. I am finding prophylactic treatment has kept them away really well.

My cleaner shrimp are 4", so, they make it through and my electric blue hermits are monsters, so they are fine as well. I'll lose a crab here and there, but nothing like the first time I treated in my 180 and where I had hundreds of hermits.

Treated my my 150 with one whole pill Tues and did a 30% water change and carbon yesterday. Upon inspection of one of the corals that the red bugs were visible by eye I dont see them anymore. I think it did the job. Not sure if I should do another dosage in a week. Might be overkill but not sure.
