I try avoiding sticking my hands in my tank as much as possible unless something fell down which is rare, but if its near the top, I use stainless steel tongs. Other then that, I only go in for cleaning coraline off the glass once a month if that. If I need to handle medium/large rocks which is even more rare, I use examination latex powder free gloves. If its a tiny small rock or corals, I typically use bare hands but only after washed with soap and rinsed well
I use my bare hands (washed without soap). Probably have to put my hands in the tank about 3-4 days a week at the moment but I'm trying to cut down. The tank definitely does better when I leave it alone.
Using sterile tools is always the best method to get around your tank, however, if I ever need to get into a tank, I wash from finger tip to above my elbow and rinse in hot water.
Just remember your tools can be just as unsafe and full of contaminants as your hands, be sure to clean and store them properly.
I wash without soap and may or maynot wear gloves. I have a couple of anemones and stinging corals that tend to cause some skin irritation, so gloves are a big+
I don't put my hands in my tank as much as I use to, but when the occasions pops up that I must I wash my hands with soap and hot water. I then rinse the heck out of them, and make sure my bracelets are rinsed well also. Same thing goes for when I have to do anything in my sump.
I put my hands in my tanks all the time for maintenance, feeding, etc. I will usually just rinse my hands and forearms off beforehand. I only scub down with soap and hot water if I had been handling anything I think may be detrimental to the tank.
I usually stick my hand in to move some coral around but more times then none I am usually wearing gloves, i wash my hands alot before and after I put my hand in the fish tank.
Nitrile gloves powder free. I have big hands and the Nitrile doesn't break as quick as even the XLG gloves are a bit snug on me. Doesn't puncture as quick handling sharp rocks/frags.
Alot of people use those arm length gloves as well.
If anyone knows something that i don't as far as safety with the nitril let me know.
I use half rusty tongs, and if I cut a coral half rusty bone cutters.. Stick my hands in my tank at least twice a day until I get some Damn glue.. My tank should be a swamp the way I stick my hands in there if that really meant anything.. I could probably go in my tank with no ill reactions on the system and it's inhabitants,,lol.. My fish have eaten brocolli with butter on it with no ill reactions and all types of crazy not on mreef menu type of meals.. If I had a small tank that would probably change everything.. If your system is weakened by unstable pars, a small skimmer, high trates, and phates you should definetly be cautious..
The statements above are the views and opinions of someone who has never experienced a tank crash so you might not want to try these things,,,,lmao..
