what do you mean? do you have old bills prior to your tank to compare to?

I have not done the full estimate yet, not going to. until I get it efficient as possible.

Fuge Light = 96 watts x 24 hrs = 2.30 KWH
Actinics = 280 watts x 14 hrs = 3.92 KWH
MH = 1200 watts x 7.5 hrs = 9.00 KWH
Misc (top-off, kalk reactor, phosban reactor, fans, heater, etc) = ~50 watts x 24 hrs = 1.2 KWH

That total watts is 290+45+96+280+1200+50 = 1961 of total watts
1961/1000 kw= 1.961 * 24 hrs = 47.064 x $0.175 e-cost = 8.2362 e-usuage x 365 day= $3006 a year and $250.15 per month.

I made the plunge. After making this whole stink, I have decided to smell the stink first hand.

I just ordered the skimmer from PA. Jay assured me that I can return it within 30 days (even used) if I am not happy with it. It was not in their retrun policy on the website, but i asked him clearly and he answered me clearly, I trust them and would rely on his word (otherwise Amex can take care of it). But i dont expect to return it anyway, it just makes it easier to be the ginea pig.

nope, i thought it would come today, but it shipped out later than the rest of my order (drop shipped) so it should arrive tomorrow.
I made room in my sump for it... can't wait

Albert be careful that you don't bleach your corals because the skimmer will improve your water quality. You will most likely have to shorten your photoperiod.

good idea rich, and i also just cleaned the glass of my lights. i'll be careful.

FYI, i just moved the rocks in my sump yesterday (i had it full with rock rubble for bio-filtration) and found almost a half inch of junk that had settled there since the 1 year this system was running - (i guess i should have been siphoning that out more often). I guess going forward the skimmer would skim that stuff out? or not really?

albert you would be better off if you used a small powerhead to suck the junk out of the sump. it would take the skimmer a while to get that out.

also that debris has been sitting there rotting, so it's a good idea to get it out asap.

this is the one problem with keeping rock in the sump, it allows garbage to build up that you can't see, and can't get to. I have kept my sump empty, it acts as a settling chamber for debris. It gets cleaned out at least once a month with a power head, hth.

Yes, from not skimming over the past year or so Alberts water is a little discolored which is common in unskimmed tanks. He also runs 400w DE's 10ks which are extremely powerful. That first cup of skimmate is going to STINK!
