I was just preparing for a water change and was scooping some salt out of an Instant Ocean bucket when I noticed something that was not salt in the cup. It looked pretty shiny and like a flake of something.

I fished it out and it is GOLD! I don't know a ton about jewelry or metallurgy but this is undoubtedly gold and pretty decent sized flake as well. My mother in law recently returned from Alaska where she went panning for gold and this is about the same size.

I don't want to start a rush on Instant Ocean buckets, so I will guess that this is a scraping off gold plated fitting in the factory. I'm going to put it under a microscope at some point to verify this. If I don't see any scrapings and this is truly a gold FLAKE, maybe this could be a new gold rush!!!

that amount, assuming it was "gold plated" on something, is worth less than the tin cap you have it on, imo, but im no gold expert...

i would do as rookie07 mentioned, complain and get a free bucket. maybe it will have gold as well...
