how do i weather proof the garage door >??

You can put rubber weather strips along the edges. It'll look something like this:

Home Depot carries it.

If it's a panelled aluminum door can you get the foam insulation and cut into shapes that will fit in the panels?
Some of this has a liner you could paint so it wouldn't look too bad

Move the tank inside. it's the only economic way. other than that you'll pay $$$ to just heat your tank.

4" of stryo might help, but you're going to need the top open for lights. Heat rises, so the heat is gonna go straight out the top.

I keep 3 out of my 4 tanks in the basement within a fish room and even though it's colder down there, I almost constantly need to keep an exhaust fan on due to the moisture created by the tanks which keeps the room temperature in the 60's. If I don't keep the humidity level around 40%, I will see condensation on certain walls and mold will form over time.
I would think that if Ricky insulated his garage that this will also happen over time.

Depending on the size of the area, it might also be worth it to make the fish-tank area a separate, small, insulated room.

Even 1" of styrofoam insulation would significantly reduce the heat loss from the system. Also, yes, the convection heating due to contact with warm air rises. However, all of that radiative heating that's directed into the tank goes into it, and most of it gets absorbed by, well, anything dark-colored in the tank.

I would try wrapping the sump and all non-visible panes of the main tank in insulation sheets (the mylar looking stuff). that will probably help a lot.
