My ph in my tanks are running very low. I reseached this product called seachem aquavitro. It sounds great. It says it will not raise your alk while it is raising your PH, Has anyone ever tried this product before? It does have great reviews. I went out today and bought balance and 8.4. I made a 5 gallon bucket of water with Tropic marin crystals and tested the ph and the alk after it was made. The ph was at 7 and alk was at 12.5. I then added Balance and also 8.4. The levels did come up. Ph went to 8.4 and alk is still at 12.5. I have not added this to my tank yet. I wanted to see if anyone else has been using this product and how it is working out for them.

I know this is all from a C02 problem in my apartment because I put a cup of water outside for 5 hours and the ph went from 7.4 to 8.2 in just a few hours. so I know its from the c02.

Does anyone else have any other ideas? I did put my protein skimmer air pump outside my window to bring some fresh air into the tank.

Thanks

You really should let sw mix aerate for 12 -24 hours before using or testing.
When you tested the water you put outside for 5 hours, did you also test a sample that was inside for comparison?
What kind of CO2 problem do you have in your apartment. Sounds like it might be dangerous to live there.
You don't have a glass top on your tank by chance, do you?

Hey No glass top. and yes I did test before and I did test after. I did test the same water in the apartment as for the same water outside. Outside water was much better then inside. And as far as CO2 in the apartment its from it being closed up for the winter. I do have an air pump going from outside into my skimmer to help out a little. And I did just add the seachem aquavitro balance to my tank and OMG what a world of difference in the reading. PH is Now 8.4. :)

3 days after add seachem aquavitro my ph has been steady at 8.4. Just wanted to give everyone an update on this stuff. Seems to be working out good.

Hold on, you made a brand new batch of saltwater and the PH was at 7? Did you let the saltwater sit for several hours with a pump for circulation? Your new saltwater should be pretty close to 8.3 24 hours after making it if you are circulating it in an area with good air movement (not a closet or shelf of anything).

If it is still at 7 after 24 hours mixing time (and the SG is close to 1.024), then perhaps the test kit is wrong.
