reef lighting question

I know this is probably the dumbest question but how many hrs should a reef tank light be on?? I looked it up on different websites and i get alot of answers that contradict each other, since i trust MR i just wanted to get the answers straight from you guys

lets start with what lighting do you have ? and types of corals ? i have a 8 bulb t5 with switchs for 4 and 4, antics are on 8 hrs and day bulbs 6

it ur choice depending on the animal u have in the tank but any were from 7 to 12 hours u should be good

i try to mimic the natural day and run daylights for 8 hours, and actinics for 12, so that you get a morning and evening transition with a couple hours of actinic without the daylights. corals don't care, but the fish seem to not be as freaked out.
