Book Recommendation?

So my wife has been asking if we can set up a seahorse tank for awhile now. I picked up a tank this weekend put in water and a few pieces of rock that I pulled from my reef. So thus begins the cycle.

Anyway... we're going away at the end of next month for about 10 days, and nothing but sand and rock will be in the tank until we get back, so it should have ample time to do its thing. When we get back, I'll toss in a cleaning crew, then maybe a small goby. If all goes well, the tank should be ready for the ponies around mid April.

While it's cycling, I was wondering if anyone had a good book that I could grab on seahorses. I've been reefing for a long time and know the basics of seahorse care, but want to get more in-depth knowledge before I start any stocking.

In addition to that seahorse project.org and also the caretakers on MR and RC. you can never go wrong with personal experience as a guide.

Thanks! I'll check that one out. As far as personal experience, I agree that it's great, but I like to try to research and ask educated questions, and save their expertise for the difficult stuff!

Anyone else with good books? The one Alex mentioned looks great as a general resource, so I'll probably grab that, but would love other suggestions on captive seahorse tanks as well.

you will find that not many books have been written on the subject.Maybe they feel that its been done. I remember when I was a teen, I did this exact search and found only three books at that time. One was called " The encyclopedia of seahorses" I don't remember the author. And two smaller books by TFH Books. This was the early 80's, and I remember going from pet store to pet store just looking around to see what I could find. There wasn't a library I hadn't been at just looking. Until in late 1999 I happened across the book I mentioned above. If info is what you are looking for, This book and project seahorse will provide the best collection of info around. As for individuals I believe Asianer here on MR and some others have even breed seahorses in their homes. BTW RC also has a forum for active seahorse keepers, and I'm sure you will find some answers there. Good luck.
