Kat, I have no idea where my P04 is since I don't have a tester for it Yet!LOL I think you missed also, I'm running both medias in the 1 reactor.;)

I did see what you said about running them both together, but that doesn't change the fact the the more phosphate in a tank, the faster it will wear out the GFO.
Why not daisy-chain the reactors together so you only need 1 pump to run both? Not sure why you decided to run only 1?

Awi, where in Far Rockaway do you live? I work in Belle Harbor drive through Far Rockaway on my way home everytday. I can bring my PO4 tester to work with me and stop by afterwards to test and help with your lights! Let me know; the pleasure would be all mine.

No it doesn't change that particular fact, and since I know that, and the fact that I don't have a Hanna meter with which to test for P04 I cannot go by the numbers.:) Hence I was asking for general idea on how often others change the media when they run them together since I know a few people here do just that.;)

Daisy chaining the 2 TLFs would defeat my experiment.;)

The explanation is in post #11.;)

"I'm running them together because I purchased the GFO & AC from BRS, and the carbon is a big PITA while running a reactor. It is so small that no matter how much water I let run through the reactor some of it always manages to escape. I thought that by sandwiching it between 2 layers of gfo I would avoid this problem. Didn't work as well as I had hoped for. Once I'm rid of this ac I am going back to chemipure, or might try Marineland Diamond."

James, if I am not mistaken the reason for the low flow through the gfo is so that it doesn't get turned into powder, so far it has not been turned into powder.;) As for the carbon needing heavier flow, I am not so sure this particular carbon needs it, or could handle it. Any way I just want to use it up, and be done with it.

DarkDrako, you have a PM.;)

put some filter floss between the carbon & the useless little sponge that is in the reactor?

Actually Kat, I plan to buy the foam pad that I get for my turtles filter a little bigger, and cut it to fit. You are so right those sponges that come in the TLF reactors are totally useless.;) I just have to make the time to get over to Pet Smart to pick it up.:splitspin
