Hello All,

Late night post. I'm pissed. Just when I thought everything was going well.

My tank was damn near silent and my equipment was all upgraded.

Tonight for no reason my stupid overflow sounds like Niagra falls because the water level in the overflow box doesn't stay high enough. It's draining so much faster for some reason and it's driving me insane.

Then while trying to figure that out, my skimmer decides to crap out. I just spent the past three hours attempting to fix crap. After I thought I fixed it, the stupid thing overflowed and spilled water onto my floor. Now, I have a tank that sounds like a toilet and no skimmer.

I'm hoping Russ could save me again with this Plumbling noise because it's driving me insane.
I could be being overdramatic, but man it seems to be problem after problem.

Try giving your return pump a good cleaning. It could be that it's getting gunked up and kinda weak and isn't pushing as much water as it should.

That's what's weird I didn't change anything. Except a powerhead. It is a reef ready tank and I have a properly drilled durso stand pipe.

I cleaned the return and stopped the annoying gurgle sound. Now it's just the water rushing down. Goodness I hate it

Could the new powerhead be pushing water away from your overflow - causing it to not be pushing enough water down there and that's causing the noise that is making you nuts?
Try turning it off - wait a bit for the system to equalize and see if the sound goes away :)

(wasn't it you who just upgraded your Vortech? - that will move a LOT of water away from an overflow...)

or..if you have a durso on there, adjust it with a fitting.

I thought of the Vortech thing but... It was on night mode.

I have a video I took this morning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC7vRNt7Tbk&feature=youtube_gdata

How about a video of the water/surface flow in the DT? :)

You said the only thing you changed was the powerhead ?(how can you call a Vortech a powerhead? It is a Vortech! ..ok, I adore mine :))
So the issue most likely is there..

Even after you switch it to night mode, it still takes a while for the tank to equalize the water level between the DT and the sump.
Mine is set up in Long Pulse Mode and when it is at the peak of that mode, I too listen to that darn gurggling noise from one of my overflows - as it is pushing the water away from that overflow.
Once it switches back to the lower mode, the noise is gone.

..and no, quitting over water noise isn't an option..it's fixable :)

Noise from my tank is my biggest pet peeve. People who have came over know that I strive to keep it silent lol.

I know that with the new Vortech, my tidal mode pulls back water and then spits it back out which is cool... I'll try and turn it off tonight and see what happens. The video doesn't express how loud it is. It's absolutely absurd.

I know it's literally too much air getting into the drain. I just don't know what to do to get it down. If I cover the drain halfway with my finger it's perfectly silent, the way it used to be. That's why I concluded it was draining too quickly. Please excuse my anxiousness, but I'm a walking zombie right now. -_-

You had 2 mp20s facing each other right? But now its 1 mp40 on the other side of the overflow? I am just spectulating but it seemed to be fine when you got the mp40 set up. So I'm not sure, no wonder you were AFK from COD for a long ass time LOL

Thought that too so I cleaned it up last night.

I literally pour a cup of RO water into the overflow and it goes silent... then after a few minutes the water fall noise comes again.

Sorry can't think of anything else. In the past, I would manually clear the air hole with a toothpick or nail. Is your air hole adjustable? Good luck, don't give up. :)

Ok, so if you place your finger over the air intake and it makes it silent. That?s a simple fix. Take some of the mounting clay that we use in the hobby to mount frags and make a little plate to go over the hole. Start with a pin and slowly make the hole bigger till you get a good ratio of water and air that gets good water draining and is still quite.
don?t quite the hobby. sometimes it?s the simplest solutions we overlook in this hobby.

The Drain pipe in my sump where the water comes out. Not the Durso Stand Pipe Air hole-- which isn't adjustable it's just a hole-- I already tried putting air line tubing with a valve to no avail. The Durso pipe is fine is fine.

Crap I can't wait till I go home.
