help!! with refugium

hello every 1 im new to this site n im trying to learn how to set my refugium as of right now my tank isnt a reef all i have r live rocks n fish im working my way up step by step n now finally im seting up a refugium n i wanted to no wat should i put in it as in mud or sand? n if it is mud wat mud is the best to get ....thank u

Alotta people use live sand ,caluerpa, cheato, liverock etc.... I use miracle mud (and no complaints from me)

You can use sand or mud or a combo of the two- I used a combination of Live Sand and Miracle Mud - Mud on the left side Live Sand on the right then an inch of live sand over the top of the mud, has worked well for me so far but you can use whatever you prefer, just make it deeper than a normal sandbed

You can also use cheato or caluerpa but keep in mind caluerpa grows like mad so you will have to prune it A LOT more often than you have to mess with cheato.

To add to the discussion, how deep are you sand beds in your fuge? I am thinking of doing sand mud and cheato in my fuge, and maybe a piece of LR.

So which brand is better Fiji mudd or miracle mudd?

My sandbed in the fuge part of my sump(center chamber) is 6 inches deep- I used miracle mud but am not sure if it makes a difference which mud you use- like brand of sand I think is whatever company youd prefer to use.

i used carib sea mineral mud ... fosters and smith carry it but like jimmyririder said the brand u choose that up too u

I used miracle mud in my fuge. I also have caluerpa and cheato. When they get too much for the fuge I cut some and give it to my tangs.

As a beginer go with cheato, it is safer. caluapera(some species) can have some problems if you do not light it properly or prune it properly.
