These are already being marketed for aquarium use. The problem is that at full intensity the light is very yellow and not really appropriate for reef use aesthetically. The spectrum becomes bluer as you dim it, but who is going to pay full price for a light you can't use at full intensity? Apparently Luxim will custom mix the gasses to a better spec IF a sizeable pre-order is made--- and no one is prepared to plunk down that much $$$ in advance at this point. The LIFi is currently in use at a few public aquariums for freshwater applications and this might ultimately be the market for them in the aquarium world.

Warren--Cherry stopped using theirs for the reasons above. I know of 1 unit in Conn. you might be able to play with if you really want to :)

I would the diy led I made for my tank at full power are a little too yellow (I should've used more blue bulbs) all I do is keep them at full power , when I want to hang out by the tank I dim the whites a little bit.
Anyway this was an excellent find thanks for sharing could you imagine the stock prices if they get a contract for street lights ? I hope someone on MR that knows about this stuff shares the info

Haha the MH will always be around. They said the VHO would replace the MH, then the T8s and T12s would. Then the T5's would. And also the LEDs would replace them. They are still here though.

I talked to Gerald and he told me that the 1 bulb pyramid plasma light would run some where around $900.00 plus.. But it didnt seem to be much savings on the heat and watts needed to run the unit.. Im going to go with leds from t5.. and I will see where that gets me and my sps's...
