Ok- major mess up- come home and acans look dead- Acro white stems and film hanging from them-

Do a quick water change about 10%- keep the water and test Nitrates 30ppm phosphates .50 - calcium - 400 - hardness- 9, salinity - 1.026 not good

Stupid ass I am bought an ATO 5 days ago- set it up - place 5 gal of RO for reservoir- water topping off - great - test RO and 990 ppm _ DAMN my faucet is only 300. I guess I need a powerhead in the RO reservoir - ya think

So Question is - adding 990 ppm water to your tank will screw up acans and acros, yes?

it either that or the file fish I added is kick butt on my corals

I'm thinking you need to either recalibrate your TDS meter, get new filters for your RODI and explain why 1.026 is 'not good'.

High TDS is not detrimental to the health of your coral or fish. It is a problem because it can cause an increase in the probability of an algae outbreak.

I don't understand where the 990 ppm (I assume you mean TDS) comes from? If the tap is 300ppm and you ran it through an Ro/DI unit , even one that wasn't functioning properly why would it increase so much ? Was the reservoir new and did you rinse it out well? .50 PO4 is VERY high, but I suspect some other kind of contamination.

sorry to hear that rich.
i just got the hanna phos. meter. if you wanna borrow it lmk.
990 ppm???? i got a calibrated tds meter you can borrow while you're at it.
contamination in the ro resevoir??? i don't know if you have to circulate the ro resevoir. i never circulate top off water...only have a heater in it.
did anything died, rotting somewhere and fouling the water?
990ppm doesn't tell you what are in the 990 parts...if it's all phosphate and nitrate...then yeah that could have killed the corals.

Other than the PO4 reading on that last round of tests things are fine. How did you halve the PO4 and NO3? What ever you did, do it again :). 14ppm is still way to high for fresh RO/DI water you need to change either RO membrane or Di cartridge or both. TDS should read 0 from a properly functioning unit. I still don't understand where the 990ppm reading was coming from.

Thanks Pratt- I'm not sure why I was getting the 990 ppm on the TDS- It came from a bucket I used as the Reservoir- maybe residual salt or I might have used the bucket for a water change - or my kids might have washed their hands in it - lol

I completed a 35% water change today and tested this morning.

I don't have DI only RO and it I have been using it for the past two months with no problems - everything was OK-

The bulb is three months old - I am getting good skimmate - I cleaned the sand of large debris

Fish- Anemone, Peach digi, zoos and shrooms look ok-

I am going to change another 30% in the morning - I dipped the acans for 5 minute and placed them ona rock mid level with moderate flow

Just sucks because they were turning out really nice about 40 heads between them -
