Is it even possible to remove algae manually?

I want to redecorate my tank and move the live rock around. However, there is so much green and hair algae on the live rock! I tried using an old toothbrush and a scrubbie to try to get it off but its stuck on there! anyway to loosen it up?

How long has the tank been running .Whats your NO3 and PO4 readings.
You might have high PO4 if so you have to fix that and then your hair alge problem will go away.

I'm trying to "restart" my tank in a way because I'm draining out all the water to redo the rockscaping so I'm just wondering if I can manually remove the algae

You can get some of it off but not all . Its seeded to the rock so it will grow back. Do you have any fish in there now If not just leave that light of and it will die.

I do. i have a pair of clowns and a zoa thats why i need the lights on but ive cut down on the lights lately

I had HA issues... It was like a beautiful lawn . Got 20 Mexican Turbo Sanil (75G tank). it took care of all that in a week.

A small wire brush will remove the hair algae, but it will return if you don't keep your parameters in check.

LOL i know what you mean. same thing here. If only the grass in front of my house looked like my tank.. haha

Take that rock out scrub it really well ( i used a brand new brush) +1 batt

Steel brush and some elbow grease will handle the job.. Then do some water changes more often on the system,,,,Happy reefing..
