What do people think of using a small dose of vodka as a matinance dose never going up or down

Matt, I think that's the general idea, but finding the "Maintenance" is why peopel start slow, and steadily increase, while testing nightly to find out when thier NO4 is nearly depleted.

Edit: And correct me if I'm wrong, by steadily increasing, I mean weekly peopel go up .1mL if they see their PO4 and NO4 still present. Again, that's just my understanding of it.

+1 to NYreefnoob. Good advice there as well. Personally I wouldn't dose. I've had bad experience where SPS's started bleeding tissues, and we all know how that is. It's just not worth the risk, although the rewards are great...

alot of the bleaching comes from extra light penitration, you will notice about half hour to hour later the water becomes crystal clear, which is allowing for more light and light shock

Good info thanks guys i just hooked up my precision marine one skimmer last night but couldn't keep it running I have to run to home depot to get a hose clamp . I'm hopeing with this new skimmer I won't have to dose any vodka I'm gonna give the tank and skimmer a few months to break in and then I'll see where it stands. I do add microbactor 7 everyday it seems to help with water clarity and alage. Would like to hear more opinions on zevoit systems vrs vodka and microbactor 7 ??

yes it can with 2 part, usually people with a calcium reactor have high demands and stocked sps tanks, ive done well with just using kalkwasser with my ato

Look into sulfur denitrator, I am running a DIY unit and haven't had a water change in 8 months and no algae.
