yonkers1 first off i dont understand anything you have said, you ask a question with an answer. your idea of standard light will use more power then going with t5's and t5's have a higher par output. yes it is very possible to maintain a reef with minimal equiptment. a sales pitch never made me run out anf buy anything. seeing something that is proven to work is the sales pitch for me i guess, i have most of the bells and whistles, but i work and am not home to monitor the tank all day for temp ect, so i spent some $ and have a almost maintanence free tank. take a look at some of the tanks on here, i guess it really depends on what you want the tank to look like. and because your a old dog doesnt mean you can't learn a few new tricks
