Thanks. I just made a Turf Algae Filter in my sump. It's too soon to tell if it does anything. I tried dosing vodka but never got results from it other then a major algae bloom. Everything lives well in my tank but for months my nitrates are crazy high and nothing I do seems to lower them.

I found with the vodka less is more when I first started I followed the dosing instructions and got to a point I was getting a lot of cyano was told to use special blend and that did seem to work at first after a while the cyan was getting to be a problem I ran out of special blend and cut mY vodka dose in half and stayed at that dose from then on no mb 7 or special blend and got amazing results it did take a while though and my skimmer was working very well pulling a lot of crap when I cleaned my collection tube it stunk up my apt

That's funny because I'm in the exact same boat! I've been using Special Blaend and vodka. I had lots of red cyano and very high nitrates. I dosed Special Blend and the cyano went right away. I have 300 gal volume in my system so right now I've been adding every morning 8 ml of Special Blend and 5 ml of vodka. My skimmer is black every morning and stinks. The red cyano is gone but now I battle hair algae. The clean up crew keeps it off the rocks but it grows all over my closed loop pipes and equipment. Then a few days ago I also added thgis turf algae filter. The nitrates stay at 40 to 50 ppm though. I guess I'm going to just stick with this plan for a few weeks and see what happens.
