Manny the purple is more of a preference thing..you don't "need" the purple just like you don't "need" the blue. It's however you want the tank to look. Some people add bulbs with more orange/yellow tint for a sunrise effect. All the blue bulbs mentioned are pretty good I have used them all.

the ge bulb will help bring red's and yellow's out in fish and corals and give's a different color spectrum towards growth in my ati 6 bulb i run 3 blue + 1 ge 1 75\25 and 1 12k i really liked the icecap bulbs also {uvl} then i ran on my 8 bulb fixture 4 20k twilights and 3 14k and 1 ge

i am running the same light fixture tek 6bulb . But it all depends on what corals you have and what you want to achieve? coral placement is a plus.

ummm who makes the ge bulb?

general electric (ge). You do not need the purple bulb, and if its an 03 actinic youd be better off swapping it out for a uvl 75/25 or actinic white. Itll still kinda purple but itll give you alot more par than an 03. I have played around with the ge 6500 and im not a fan. Alot of people swear by them and they do have a high par rating. But that spectrum just does not penetrate to the depths where most corals grow. I've also heard they have caused browning of corals and nuisance algae growth in some peoples tanks. I run 4 blue+ (3 ati, 1 wavepoint),1 uvl actinic white, and 1 ati aqua blue special. Its pretty blue, but so is the light in the ocean from what Ive seen.

side note: uvl actinic white, and ati aquablue special both claim they are 12000k and yet they look nothing alike. Atleast with my fixtures, the actinic white is more similiar to a fiji purp or pro color bulb, and the aquablue special is probably more of a true 12000k (crisp white light, with no noticeable yellow tint)

Not really my suggestion. It was GrimReefer's suggestion at Reef2Reef. He's a pro with t5 lighting combinations. Now, since ATI has the purple and aquablue, he suggests those along with the blue plus without the ge 65k :)

FWIW, the blue + bulbs have insanely high PAR ratings... so you don't NEED to get a GE 6500K bulb. (Not saying your suggestion is poor, just clarifying a bit)
