Personally I think LED is too new of a technology just like the LED tv's..no guarantee on bulb life and other issues that can arise. Bulbs could be another reason also they do make money on bulbs..although you don't need to replace them that often the profit margin on them is astrofrigginomical. I am sure major companies and experimenting with them and are doing some R&D. I'm sure they also do not want to take the risk of making a crappy product hence making them look bad.

Wait, you mean like Apple? Name ONE product they made that didn't SUCK on launch, and then need to be upgraded 6 months later...

i dont think it has to do with bulb replacement profits because there are alot more fresh water aquariums that still will use florescent light.i think there is still little known about LED and they dont want to risk failure and replacement fixtures.they dont know the long term effects these lights will have .and there isnt much profit to be made

Because there is a U.S. Patent on the use of LEDs for aquarium lighting.

PFO was a big name in the industry and the first to make an LED fixture for aquarium use. Then they were sued for patent infringement and went bankrupt from the legal fees.

Most of the LED stuff u see now is imported from china, where they don't care about patents, etc.

After seeing what happened to PFO, I suspect the "Major Players" don't feel the profit margin will be worth the effort after paying royalties or fighting the patent holder in court.

+1 Poor research and design. Everytime your Lithium battery goes out on ANY device, you have to send it back for replacement.

What is amazing is that the Apple users stick to their brands EVEN if they manage to mess things up...:splitspin

I think LEDs are still at it's trial stage and it will be a few years down the road before they will swap over...Remember CFLs? It took a long time before it REALLY took off... They were over $10 a bulb when it first came out...

Tony the funny thing is I've NEVER had to send any apple product for repair. But if I did I would have to send it anywhere, I'd just drive to the apple store to get REAL customer service.

I had the first iPhone for 3 years with absolutely no problems. I never owned a phone prior that lasted that that long. I've had my MacBook for 3 years and it still runs like it did when I bought it. Perfect.

Can't say the same for any of the countless pc's I've had over the years.

Apple users are loyal for a reason. Their products work and last many years without problems and the customer service is second to none.

I can't say the same about any other consumer electronics company.

I'm not brand loyal, but until I have a bad experience I will continue to buy their products despite what the apple haters say.

Why are we talking about Apple?

I feel this is the major reason as well.
