Have you ever lied to your g/f , wife significant other and actually felt bad?

The reason I ask is b/c I sneaked in acouple of days ago that I order my tank to my girl friend of course after I cooked for her. :)

When I really had order it 2weeks prior...

Then last night at dinner she asked me " so how much is this new fish tank going to cost?" my answer ...1,000

when tank alone was 2200.....

I allways told her the truth before but this set up is going to cost me more than acouple of k's ...

I feel bad but I work hard lol . But the truth will cost me a shopping spree lol.

I was just wondering ...

It's always better to tell the truth no matter what in my opinion. The reason it took so long for my wife to allow the big tank was because I was honest about the cost.

She was all "No way" for several years until finally she got so sick of hearing about it that she finally caved lol.

Dont worry about it.

I always discount the price of what I buy, this equipment is for the long term.
If you feel guilty about not being transparent about the cost of the tank consider how much you will recover when you sell it. If you sell it for half what you bought it for then it really only cost what you told her.

I have been in the same boat in the past. My wife is more concerned about the time I spend with on the fish tanks, but also thinks the money I spend is absurd. I used to tell my wife things cost half as much than what I actually paid for them. I came to the realization that lying was just ridiculous. I explained that almost every man has one or more hobbies, and they all cost money. The hobby that I am passionate about at least keeps me at home, and really brings enjoyment to my son and our guests.

Now my hobbies could be hitting up casino's or golf courses every weekend. That would keep me out of the house and cost a lot more in the long run that my fish tanks. When I argue that point the wife chills out a bit.

Ever since Kate saw the con-ed bill with my 2nd tank, I realized I can't lie to her anymore. Damned papertrail!!! BTW-THAT was the reason I had to get rid of my other tank :(

Kinda of funny this came up. When wifey came home i was schucking mussels in the kitchens so she was drooling thinkin i was making them for dinner. I just took two half shells walked passed her to let her get the garlic whiff and dumped them in the tank,.The look i got was priceless. I am sure if she finds the hidden stash of receipts conveniently tucked away from her arms reach i would have a lot of explaining to do. Oh and by the way my Aquavim oceanseries 110 w/cabinent / sump buddy 40 and lights only cost me 1200. Good deal huh? :shhh:

Can gues her emoticon once she finds out the basement plans:irked:

Look at it like this.

My tank is my therapy. After a stressful day working in finance I look at it and I have instant piece of mind.
I work on it a lot and for everything I do I get instant results. Aquascaping, or making equipment or just routine cleaning. Most people come over and have no idea what goes on or what goes into keeping this tank like it is.

I could sum up all the money I have spent so far and think about what it would cost for me to get that same piece of mind and feedback after a hard day at work.

Therapy
Drinking
Gym membership
Self absorbed materialism
Yacht racing
Golf

Put this hobby into perspective and it is not all that much more expensive.

I consider my tank to be a living piece of art. And, purely for the amount of time you spend contemplating your tank, if you look at it like that it doesnt seem all that expensive.

And besides, this experience is open to everyone who comes to my house.
