This thread is a TOTAL failure. People have hard time comprehending SINGLE in "Single best change to your tank....".

For me it was upgrading my Coralife Fixture to Current Nova Extreme Pro 12 x 39W HO T5s

its quite obvious that most times its not just only one thing that make the great change.

for me i have to say getting a dedicated R/O unit.

This is exactly why a lot of people fail school, they just can't answer the question at hand. :shhh: People get a question with a b c d answers and they start writing an essay. Yep, I've seen it. The one I liked most during my years in college was when people failed open-book exams. Whaaaaaaat?

But lets keep it on topic.

Not to be a stickler but at least there was a topic related answer in the post you referred to. I didn't see one in yours.

RO/DI is definitely important. Some cyano started appearing in my tank last week and I ordered a new filter kit+membrane asap. Had I not been so frugal from the get go I probably would not have been visited by the offending slime. Not a happy camper right now.

Perhaps you just quickly skimmed through this thread and missed my post #78. Afterall, I did specifiy a SINGLE best thing that changed my tank. Ha!

I'm honestly a bit surprised more people haven't commented on upgrading skimmers. Not at all surprised out about the RO/DI systems though. Starting off with excellent water quality makes things so much easier.

One thing that has made a nice change for me has been the kalk reactor. I have stopped daily dosing and now sit back and enjoy it, dosing for me. I have notice very good coral growth and better skimming by using this the kalk. Hope this helps.- HAPPY REEFING - I MOVED TO PA AND BY FAR THIS IS STILL MY NUM#1 SITE FOR REEFING

I'm going to have to say that taking out the sand bed is the biggest change.. it allows me to have much more control over my system. More flow, reduced nitrates, more feeding, etc etc

i like that idea of removing the sandbed, it makes sense. I am highly considering it. slowly removing your sandbed = removing a good amount of unwanted nitrate + phosphate. many people donot like BBT but in the long run the bottom will get covered with a mix of different pink and reds of coralline algae.
