Vic8361, I've seen this trend a lot lately.. many people are switching from a calcium reactor to dosing (2 part or otherwise). With the switch to T5's, are you seeing an increase in colors, growth, or both?

When I made the switch it was more for a heat issue I had' my chiller was constantly running because my hood is only 4" high and I couldn't vent it enough with 3' fans. When I made the change I didn't expect for the t5's to do the job like the halids. But man I got better color and less heat. For my set up it was the best improvement with my lighting.

A calcum rector for me was more work I had to constantly be tweaking it, and my ph was always lower. My tank has been more stable and it costs me much less. I bought two 50lbs bags of Dow flakes 5yrs ago and just started on my second one a few months a go. I also dose the magneisium
with mag flakes and epson salt.
It keeps everything stable for me.

adding a bubble maker. i absolutely hated bubble makers but i have alot of surface agitation but one day i came home so see my clownfish laying on the floor just trying to move and my 2 puffer fish at the top of the tank not moving at all and right away i knew it was the bubble maker because i had just taken it out the day before so i put it back in and within 20 minutes everything was back to normal again.

Anthony.. do you mind posting some more about your setup? It sounds like you're either overstocked or not getting enough oxygen in the water (obviously.. but there are other ways to add oxygen normally, like skimming, for example)

well the 125 gallon is a couple days old but i have al top notch equipment for that so its doing fine with some starter fish but the 10 gallon is where i had the problem. it only has a fluval 405 canister filter so i think that must be why there was not enough oxygen but i had it so the surface would never be still but i guess that didnt help so i just but the bubble maker back in. the temperature is a constant 77 so i dont think it could be that high to have not alot of oxygen because the house temp was like 65 so the tank couldn't have been hotter.

I've had green spotted puffers in a fowlr tank before loved the little guys so energetic and cute :)

My best upgrade I've made thus far would have to be making my wet/dry into more of a refugium.

Can't wait to make all the upgrades I want :)

RO machine from Crystal Water, Blueline LED's & spot feeding corals the past 3 weeks.. I've seen a BIG difference. I can't wait to see the growth with the LED's and pure water!
