Ddnt like the color but you can use southdown play sand from Home Depot. Very cheap. Call First as i think only the bigger ones carry it.

Ultra rare grade Tyree substrate? Maybe I missed those bags. But seriously, with all the great deals, freebies, and awesome help I've gotten from this forum, I don't understand how people would deceive a fellow member to sell something or worse, try and turn a profit. Or just maybe, THEY can't get it anymore.
I dont think anyone was making a profit on the sand.
I tried looking in the Home Dept and Lowes around Long Island and couldnt find anything.
Southdown is still selling silica sand, but it is not the same as aragonite sand. You have to make sure it is not silica, completely different stuff.

Here's some info on Southdown. Looks like it's no longer available. If you found some, it must have been leftover they found in the warehouse or something.

im looking for sand now for my 180 that is why im so interested in this topic..
There was an extensive post on this in MR.
The conclusion was there is a place in Florida where you can buy this for next to nothing. You just have to say it is for gardening or something vague, like for a sandbox. If you mention a fishtank they know whats up and they will turn you away.
I dont think anyplace around here was found.
If one was, I believe they would get a lot of interest.

what is the name of the place in florida? and what sand are you talking about.
Southdown playsand is the kind of sand you can put in fish tanks.
It is very similar, if not the exact same, as Carib sea sand that is sold in LFS. The main difference was price. Southdown can fill a fish tank for under $20. Where Carib Sea is $20 per 5 lbs.
