I'm creating a secondary tank for my son and for me it's rimless/eurobrace is the way to go.

Equipment:

20 Long - old tank
2 kNanos - already have
Black sand - already have (want to try it out)
Left over rock - already have
salt
refractometer
rodi
all from my other tank....i'll probably only run carbon, filter floss and fuge in the sump

light - i know i'll get bashed for this but i'll be purchasing a 4x24 new style odyssea fixture 63bucks shipped is great....unless i find a better option that's the way the cookie crumbles. or i might go for the 100 fixture with the 2 24t5 + 150watt mh.

so what i'm actually purchasing for the tank or build price i'm looking for is 100-125.

63 for fixture
silicone + eurobrace glass + drill bits
i have plumbers putty

so off to the questions:

a) is there any tips/techniques anyone could suggest while eurobracing the tank? i know to use silicone or may go with black silicone + blue masking tape to make life easier. as well as i'll be using 3/8" glass. i'm thinking about having the glass shop make it as one whole piece instead of using 4 pieces but that really depends on how realistic the price will be.

b) i would like to create a fail safe external overflow box but i'm not trying to overspend on this simple build. i can either cut the tank or just do a glass holes over flow.

any suggestions?

I'm just removing the trim and adding on the eurobrace. do i just use the masking tape. silicone the eurobrace and drop it on top? i'm guessing i should put atleast a pound or two of weight on each corner but i'm not sure if your supposed to smush it together or leave some play?

BTW, I ALWAYS TRY TO Research my answer before I ask.
so if you try google, reef central, here, njreefers
keywords: eurobrace, how to eurobrace, etc

you will not find any details but pictures of tanks with eurobrace or just taking off the trim and the final product. no information on what they did for those that has never done it before.

Let me know when you would like to do it. Just bring the tank and I can help you.
For my 75 I ran one 48"x3" piece in the front and one in the back. On the sides I ran one 12 -/+ by 3" on each side.

I have some extra RTV-108 that we can use.

cool. thanks!!! it's going to be a slow process. i just want to get my research and design down first. i'm getting the tank prepped trim off and clean the old silicone. i'll have to find the glass shop and then i could hit you up.

I also think easiest and cheapest would be as already said. Two long strips for front and back and two little for the sides. Use some rubbing alcohol to get areas for silicone very clean. Also make sure the glass shop can sand, bevel, or smooth edges so no one gets cut.
