Hey rich...
now you are worrying me a bit... everyone seems to agree deltec's are top skimmers. I wish your awesome skimmer thread had those ap600's in action.
Seriously, aquabee must be a good pump right? or is it the other factors that make the deltec top notch?
Dre

ps , frags doing well! thanks

The deltec ap 600 is a great skimmer for it's size but they definitely overrate it. 130g heavy stock my a$$ If I put that thing on my tank my nitrates would be through the roof.

For what its worth, here's what Doug told me when I was going to buy a used European model. But remember he was trying to sell me one also.

first, i believe the skimmer you're getting is a european model that will need to be converted to US power specs. this shouldn't be a big deal, however......the US Deltecs are specifically made for the US market. the pinwheel is made with a different pattern to best utilize the faster spin cycle. side by side, a US Deltec will outperform a Euro Deltec because of this. as for how it (a Euro model) would compare to any other US skimmer, that i do not know. just remember if something breaks, you'll have to replace the entire pump at your cost. chances of that happening are pretty slim, as the AquaBee pumps are built pretty well, but just a heads-up.

I have an ap600 and so does FastUno. I believe both of use would agree that the aquabee is not silent, it has a definite hum to it. And IF your tank is otherwise silent you will notice it.

ok good info guys...
Checked out the RC Deltec forum... found some more info on the ap600. I think a 65G tank moderately stocked should be ok with this skimmer.
Waiting to hear back from seller on EU vs. US model. Sounds like US model is the only way to go for me... less hassle

And how many fish is heavy stock for you?

8 chromis
2 chalk bass
1 6" hippo
1 5" foxface
2 red cardinals
1 anthias
1 wrasse
1 kole tang

I did the no fish thing :) colors are better with more fish, more feeding, and more skimming! :D

Seriously though, I know a guy with 5 medium size fish on a BB tank and he cant get his nitrates lower than 25ppm with a deltec ap600. For the money you would get more skimming power taking a euroreef cs-8 and modifying it to recirculate

Andre don't mind me :) I'm really speaking about this skimmer on a larger tank :) Not only will this skimmer be more than enough for you, if you decide to sell it they hold value really well.....you may even profit...LOL

Heheheh rich,
after seeing your tank again... it really did convince me about top quality skimmers.
I think I'm gonna go with this ap600 on a 65G. When I do upgrade, I'll just move higher up the skimming ladder!
Of of curiosity, what was the tank size on the guy w/5 fish? Nitrates seem too high....

Rich,
I run my Ap600 on a 120g with about 11 fish and I feed moderate to heavy on a daily basis. I test my trates about once every 2 months and my nitrates test at 0.2 on a Salifert kit :smokin:

The ultimate test is to see if my levels hold stable for 222g of water cause I plumbed a 102g tank in-line with 120g.

Warren you don't count! Your husbandry is too good :)

Glad to hear it works for you because it is a nice quiet skimmer. DO you feel that it just barely keeps up with youre system or do you think it is successfully "overskimming"?

We also need some updated pics of your reef. :)

I'm able to skim very dark & smelly but at a limited amount of skimmate. Right now, I open up the air valve after a day or two so that the riser coats (or it'll skim clear water) a bit and I can skim pretty wet.

Successfully "overskimming", nah..........it's probably borderline in terms of skimmer size for my application. I'll test the trates in a week or two since I added 100 gallons of water and 7 Anthias to the mix a few weeks ago.
I'll let you know if she holds up.

I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on Tsadik's Ap702 for $1150!
