Hi,

Here's kind of a newbie question. I'm not a newbie to reef tanks or corals but I would definately be a newbie to keeping anenomes if I did buy one.

I know nothing about them except what I read and I read all kinds of conflicting info.

Is it true that they should not be kept with corals? I have a 220 gal DT with 100 gal sump. Closed loop for circulation, 900 total watts of metal halide and 356 watts of T5, on timers to simulate a full day.

Run GFO, denitrator, turf algae filter, asm G6x skimmer, have fuge, run carbon. Nitrite 0, phosphate 0, ammonia 0, nitrate 25 (too much and working on it, would not buy anenome until 0) KH 10, Ca 480.

Livestock- coral banded shrimp, turbo snails, hermit crabs, yellow tang, percula clown, bi-pseudo, green chromis, small yellowtail damsel, algae blenny.

Corals-Devils Hand, Colt, Kenya Tree, GSP, Brown Polyp, Torch.

Tank is bare bottom. 125 lbs live rock in DT and 30 lbs in fuge. Closed loop runs on Mag 24 with SCWD wavemaker.

Can you guys and girls educate me on anenomes some? Can I keep one with my set up? LFS tries to tell me no problem but I have read no anenomes with corals, none will stay alive very long, difficult and should stay in ocean, etc etc.

Problem is I see them and they are beautiful. I particulary like the carpet anenomes. Will they kill my corals or vice-versa?

Any and all opinions would be respected, appreciated and listened to.

Thanks!

I don't have any because of over crowding but i've kept some in the past. I do know that some species need a deep sandy substrate and some will wonder around until they find a suitable spot.

i have a mixed reef,,,and i have 9 anenomes ,,,lps's zoa's mushrooms's and tryin to keep sps's ,,but im havin a phosphate issue,,,as long as when u get a anenome and he lands into his happy spot,,,then u can place corals around the anenome ,,but if he gets unhappy ,,he can move and will sting corals,,and possibly kill them

How long has the current tank been set up?

You mention carpet anenomes - is that the type you are mostly asking about? All of the commonly available carpets require a sandbed and I see you have a bare bottom DT, so they would not be a viable choice for your tank.

Are you aware carpets will also eat fish?

carpet anenomes are very poison's i would go with a bubble tip they are much easier i have tried all of them and they all move sooner or later but i now have a rose bubble and hasn't moved in 2 years the only problem is it just wont stop growing it's huge

Nope, I had NO idea carpet anenomes eat fish! Thanks! My tank was set up for 2 years as a fowlr and 6 months ago converted to reef. Please keep the info coming! Carpets are out then because I do not want my fish eaten and now hearing that anenomes can travel around and sting corals if they're unhappy, I don't know.
