Do you have any Coralline Algae in your tank?
Most of the time you just need to keep your cal, alk, mag and posphates in check and wait.
IME It should start growing like crazy after that.

i wouldnt push to hard for coraline, if it spreads too much it will out compete corals if dosing isnt strict, and sufficient. and imo it ruduces the porousness of LR by growing over them.

Coraline growth is a great sign that your parameters are in check for all your other corals to grow.
If you look at any healthy system the first thing you notice is all the coraline growth

i do agree, but once it starts to really spread it does compete with corals because its rate of absorption of cal, alk, mag is much greater than LPS and SPS

you need to keep up with the demand no matter what or else your levels will drop.
Thats the key, keeping up with the demand of your system.

I'm not trying to shoot you down but I have a problem with this statement.
I wouldn't push to hard for coraline, and I believe we should push for it because it needs the proper levels for it to grow well, what is what we want to have.
I don't post much because I am a teribble writer and these debates always kill me. LOL.

Like mentioned before. IMO you shouldn't depend on someones coraline. If your parameters are not in check and you get coraline from someone it will not "survive" Growing your own is simple. Parameters in check especially calcium and alk. Happy reef keeping

I've bought rock covered in coralline and after a couple weeks it starts to turn white my corals and everything else is perfect I use instant ocean and mostly people say metal halides are the best for coral not coralline I've had my tank up for over 4 years and it only grows on the black overflow n black pumps

esv is hands down the very best switch i ever did in my life. i use to use instant ocean, then reef crystals, and now esv. once i got the box and did a 45% water change in both tanks, the very next day i actually noticed a HUGE imporvement. my corals extended farther out the ever before. the water was so clear that it litterly looked like there was no water in the tank. my water pars for perfect (ive ALWAYS had bad nitrates, and for once it 0) my cal and everything was spot on, and litterly i never got coraline algae. maybe a dot or two on my powerheads. i started using esv about a month ago and today, id say 18% of my back glass is covered already, and ALL my rocks are about 40% covered. i started the tank too with NO coraline algae on any rock. i love it. absolutely love it. check out russ or jim at saltwater critters, they have the boxes of it in stock, thats who i get it from. or a few other vendors has it as well. for 68 bucks you get the big 200g box that comes with 2 boxes, one box has just sodium cloride, and the other box comes with magnesium, component 1 & 2 chemical, 5 measuring cups, a measuring bottle and full instrustions. the instrustions look complicated, but its pretty easy after doing it the first time. the chart they give you explains it all. i HIGHLY reccomend it, and im sure many other uses of ESV will agree with me. trust me... best salt on the market!
