Got a question. I run an ASM G6x in my system. It's a 220 reef with 100 gal sump in basement. The collection cup on this skimmer is huge, probably would hold over a gallon. Everyday it collects about an inch deep of really dark stinky skim mate. I have been emptying and cleaning the cup every morning. I have to wash thick black sludge ( I vodka dose) off the collection tower with paper towels. My question is, should I empty it every day? OR should I wait until it's half full? I mean, is there advantages or disadvantges? Is it better for it to run with a clean cup everyday or will it collect more if I leave it dirty for a few days? I dont mind cleaning it every day at all but if this is not the best thing I could wait every couple days, or once a week? What does everyone think?:bablefish

My thought is that as long as any water in your system is coming in contact with the sludge on the cup..it's still IN your system.

It can only help to empty it daily while it is pulling such large amounts of crud :)

Any sludge built up in the chamber where bubbles build up will reduce your skimming ability. Or so I have been told.

I empty the cup when it gets full or close to it, and clean every 3-5 weeks (based on when I am motivated)
