What's the best or good protein skimmer? I need to buy one because the one I have need to be replaced. I took over my friends tank so I don't know what skimmer he bought. I have a 72 gal bow front tank with a sump below. any ideas?????

I have a etss sump buddy 40 on my 76 gal half circle tank and it was suppost to be the best thing since sliced bread but after running it for a year and a half Im thinking of changing it to the swc 160 cone skimmer. Havnt heard anything bad about this one so far and the pump doent draw much wattage and youtube has some nice videos on it working like a champ.. Good luck let us know which why you go..

I would go with either an Octopus or a bubble magus based on price vs. performance.

+1. i agree. bubble magus nac 7 is what i have and is the best skimmer i have ever owned. octopus are very good as well. vortex is another great one.

its all going to depend though. whats the bio load going to be in your tank? fowlr, mixed reef? whats your price range. whatever you do, dont cheap out on it. if you only have 200 bucks to spend or whatever, save for another week or so and get another 200 hundred. your skimmer is super important to keeping a healthy set up. my 47 bow runs primarily off my nac 7. its a filter sock, then skimmer, then return pump. thats it, and my tank has been going amazing. whatever you find, just read the reviews and specs. just because you have a sump also does not mean you can run any skimmer. like my nac 7 you need to have around 10 inches of water where it sits to run correctly. make sure you read read read. good luck
