The bulb combo is gonna be a matter of individual preference. It all depends how blue you want your tank to look. The better of the avail bulbs are the Ati. guessman and the Korallin Zucht.I run cheap bulbs like coralife and wavepoint cause Im a cheap s.o.b lol

I heard a lot about the ATI blue +. I do like a blue tank! But not overly blue where I will lose the color in my fish. For e.g. I don't like when just my actinic are on and my Midas blenny doesn't appear to have that true bright yellow that it really has. But I hate a white tank. I am leaning toward ATI

Jcolon2 ,

alot of people have expience with t5 bulbs but verry few went and actually buy and test over 40 bulbs before making a final decision. well jerl77 did as evidence his for sale thread selling 33 bulbs that didnt make the cut. I had the pleasure to see his tank this week with his final bulb choices in place and to be honest I havent seen another reef with lighting that nice. I would get whatever bulbs he suggests ;) also if you get a chance to go see his tank. it really is a treat and an inspiration for what I hope my tank will look like oneday.

maybe not with all those silly chalice and favia, but definetly with that kind of color and pop.

good luck with your new setup.

I agree, Jerl knows exactly what he is talking about and he is happy to share it with you (great guy) His tank looks awesome. I was at his house last week to see the tank, WOW, words cant say, I was speechless. The color is unreal. They corals look like candy, (crazy colors) and the growth is super fast. He just set up this tank not long ago and everything is incrusting all over his rocks. I would use what ever he uses without question.

1 x ATI Aquablue Special
1 ati purple plus or and ulv super atinic
i think the fuji purple washes out some of the color but makes the red and pinks pop

For a 55, I have read and Marine Depot, also told me, that you want a minimum 6 bulb T5 for that tank. Now, I have a 6 bulb Nova Extreme Pro and I had this new unit for a couple of months. I see no problems with my clams on the bottom, my scolys and SPS.

Now, as far as better lights, Tek are known to be top rates, so if I had a choice, I would go with a Tek over the Current Nove Extreme Pro.

As I said, I have the 6 bulb Nova Extreme Pro on my 55 reef, and it works awesome. Nice and quiet. However, a Tek looks much more sleeker in styling.

I also ran 4 bulbs on a 65g (36" x 18" x 24") and it was plenty of light for clams and SPS.
