wow...that is a really narrow overflow.
make sure you make a cover for it and put a mesh around the opening around the return loc-line also...anything gets into that and you'll never be able get it out.

how about building a box to cover the pipes.....a free standing rectangular box and paint it black or wall color???.
my buddy built a box to hide the pipes from the tank to the wall....it also served as a controller mount and electrical box.
i didn't even bother painting it....after awhile i didn't notice it any more.

If you glue a neodymium magnet at each of the red arrows then mount the opposing magnet on the back of a piece of trim (very easy to do), you can cover up the plumbing without any trouble.

It is an incredibly easy and very effective way to accomplish your goal.

What about building a canopy? Anyone? The canopy needs to be at least 22 inches tall. With the tank that far out it will be tough to hang the light from the wall as well. I am not hanging the light from the ceiling.

Tank

Like Tomtoothdoc.

I picked up the marineland 45 gallon cube. Before i bought it i saw one in store and was disgusted with the back overflow. During NJ macna i ordered a custom made one from Premium Aquatics and got a regular over flow in the corner. We have an corner in our condo that the tank sits in.

Not sure I am sold on that either. Just do not know. I always had canopies on my tanks.

I do not know how it will look using those mounts with the light so high above the tank.

This was supposed to be an easy build.

You might be able to use street elbows (I think thats what they are called) if you didn't already glue everything together. They will let you get closer to the wall, but you might be grateful that you have some room to get behind the tank somewhere down the line.

Anyone seen any pictures of a tank with these wood panels to hide the pipes?

This is a very easy DIY project. Since each time a tank is set up, it differs from every other tank setup. The wooden 'fillers' need to be custom made from some stock pine/oak, etc. and cut to size/shape and stained to match. Don't want to make it sound difficult because it isn't, just looking to direct you accordingly.
