So i tried making my first batch last night and i ended up with 1.020 salinity. I added another scoop of sodium and got to 1.022. Then left it overnight and in the morning it was 1.024. Was it because it aerated or was it due to some ro/di evaporating.

Anyone else ending up with lower levels?

Nope I mix 2 gallons a week I never had a problem but I do have to add some more Ro/Di after it mixes up for @ 1/2 hour because as the directions state the mix is 35 ppt or 1.026 sO I dilute it down to 1.025 takes about a cup.your issue is weird I've found it to be an excellent mix very consistent if you follow the directions closely. Don't be discouraged by this practice make perfect and you will get it plus it's worth the little bit of extra work when u start to c the growth explode haha good luck if u need more help feel free to hit me up peace

I would expect the water was not fully mixed. The water near the top had a lower salinity than the water at the bottom.

Also, you should not add an "extra cup", as this will throw the levels off.

Yes, this has happened to me. In my stupidity, I failed to see the WATER column of the mixing chart. I would start with 5g from the get-go and salinity was lower than expected. Now I start with about 4g, mix content listed for 5g and add fresh water as needed to get to 1.025.

As for it mixing.... i have a koralia 1400gph in a 5 gallon bucket filled with 4 gallons. It was so turbulent that i had to turn the pump off to see down to the bottom. Everything mixed fine and was crystal clear. Widdy, im not sure i understand what your saying and i missed this instruction.

So if im trying to make 4 gallons i should only use 3 gallons which would be high salinity and then work my way down with more ro/di?

The reason why i added another scoop of sodium C was cause the instruction said at the end to adjust salinty as need. So i thought if im low add more salt if im high add more water. :0)

I do 15 gal mix every week, u follow the directions for the amount that u are going to use.. Im my case i use 14 gallons of ro water and mix it for a couple of hours the sal. Comes 1.026 .. So i just add more ro water to get it to 1.025

I mix 15 gallons the same way very week and mine comes out pretty much the same every time. Did you make sure none of the salt was clumped together before you measured it? Or that the scoops were fully topped off and level?

The Scoops were level but didnt check for clumps. Widdy i read that entire thread and will start doing it that way! Thanks.

So last night i added an extra scoop of sodium. Cant i just add an extra of mag and extra of a and b and then top off as you say?

I suppose you can... that's what I ended up doing when I first started using it... till I read that thread to start tweaking water volume.

I may be understanding the directions incorrectly but (for example) I make a 5 gallon batch but do not start with 5gal. of RO.
I start with 5 gal. Minus 6.4 oz. as per instructions.
I guess a 5 gal. batch, they look at,, as the end result quantity, because 5 gal. RO + addatives is going to yeild more the 5 gal.

I don't know the exact amount in water volume that I use. I just messed around with the mix a few times until I found the level on the bucket I like. Then I added a line on the outside of the bucket and my mixes come out almost perfect every time. And by perfect I mean where I want them.
