I always haunt the for sale threads and see pricing that is sometimes out of the world. I am not saying that people are over charging. But how do you guys actually set an asking price for corals? Do you have anywhere that you goto first to see what it is selling for?

I have a few frags that I want to get rid of (namely tubb blues). I would really like to trade them first, but will take $$$ if people don't have what I am looking for.

I am not looking to make a living or a profit, but getting what they are worth is what I am looking for, so that I then can go and find what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance!

In this case I bought a big lot from someone and got them for dirt cheap. The person told me that he didn't care if I sold them and made money on them. But no way to price them. I guess I will just have to do trial and error and see what people are willing to pay or trade for them. I just don't wanted to get taken, I don't think that most people will but just want to make sure.

You should always pay or sell with what you feel comfortable with. I am not into the name hype and paying alot for corals. I pay for what i feel is a good price but most important what will look nice IMO. However, i for some reason end up given stuff away or trading. Sometimes its better to make friends in this hobby for when its your turn someone will lend a hand in anyway possible.

So feel free to sell at your desire but try not to focuse much on rates.

sell it for half of what you paid for it ...
For example
You paid 70 sell it for 35
Who helped you with the math? :biglaugh:

You should price them at what you feel is a fair price...people will let you know right away if it's too high. If it is too high, it is easy to reduce your price, not so easy to ask more, if you start too low.

Well, you know what you paid so you can use that as a guide. But you may have been taken when you bought so your price may be too high. But that is just to get things started. What really matters is what people are willig to pay. Now things are tough and people can't afford to spend too much so even if you ask a good price there may be no buyers. And if you have something that everyone wants then you may get even more than what you paid. But in general people here are looking for bargains. If they want to pay full price there are plenty of LFS around here. So unless you have something that can not be gotten localy you have to make the price enticing.

I really don't know what I paid... I bought a bunch of corals at one time. Nothing was priced separately.

I will just have to see what people are willing to pay..

Thanks Again

I don't know how much I paid, while I really looking to trade, just want different stuff. So I guess I will just see what people offer on a trade... Thanks

if you can't find something similar online, then it's hard to put a value on it.
Like selling anything else, you need to ask a little more than you want, because everyone wants a deal, and will expect a small discount "for cash" (as if you'd really take a check or CC) !

Usually I start with a dollar sign, then follow it with a number or two, follow that with a decimal point and two zero's.
