After I get back from Mikes house tonight I will be adding MAg to the tank but for now Im waiting to test the water with him before I add anything....

For the nitrates I run the bio pellets and they looked low last week so I added 100 MLs to the reactor.

Just happened I took a look at my doser last week and found it to have deviated. Just didn't want the same for your unit.

I had a similar issue over the summer. I noticed you said that you are using ESV salt and dosing Mag bi-weekly. I was doing the same thing with ESV and found out that Mag test kit was way off. What I thought was 1320 was really over 1500. Once I stopped dosing Mag, things turned around. I also had low pH and raised it by dripping Kalk through a Kalkreactor and litermeter.

Well Jim I just found out tonight after I tested my mag with a salifert test kit and came up with 1200 My friend Mikes test kit found it at 1420. So I my still do it bi weekly but instead of 20 mls each one of those days I might try 16 mls and see what happens. I dont have a problem stopping all togethe but Im a little afraid to.... you know how that goes. Thanks.

Let me ask you how often do you do water changes cause I do them every 2 weeks.

I do a water change every 10 days. I do 40 gals. on a 300

I also started dosing Iodine, a recommendation from Pecan2phat. And I believe this made a huge difference. I only dose once a week. That might be something to try...

So you do less then 20% water change? Cause I do 20 gals every 2 weeks on a 76 gal tank so with the sump Im guessing its about 80 gal total water.
I do dose once a week 3 drops the brightwell iodine. So we are on the same page there.
So let me just ask you are you saying using the esv salt we dont have to dose mag? You stopped all together?

Cause what I did last night I took a water sample and then went off my salifert test of 1200 and I added 50 mls of mag to the tank. Now my friend Mike's mag test kit read 1420 so by adding 50 mls I just pushed it up to some where near 1500 also..... So what I did was lower the doser amount from 20 mls 2 times a week to 16 mls 2 times a week....
I know I screwed up by adding the 50 mls before getting the second test result back...

Well then maybe the gremlins found a new home!!!!
Whats that 2 floods in a 24 hour period? The first one had nothing to do with me.... LOL

I stopped dosing Mag all together, but I am running a calcium reactor which I believe has Mag in the media any way. I haven't dosed in at least 7 months and maintain about 1340

Well do you or anyone else on hear think 1420 mag which is a little high but not to crazy would cause RTN?
Cause thats about the only thing I have come up with. And my Mag should be around 1500 after adding the 50 MLs last night so it might come down a bit on my next water change on friday.
