Do the orange Homer buckets from HD leech stuff if storing water in them? I use one for my ATO with a cover on it. I just did a water change and went to replace the ato water and decided to test what was left in the bucket. I got a TDS reading of 277! My ro/di unit is pretty new and always read 0. Anyone one have any similar experiences with these buckets?

Look on the bottom... you'll see "HDPE" and a "2" in the recycle symbol.

And you'll see the exact same "2" on the bottom of a Reef Crystal bucket.

The following is a copy and paste:
(color emphasis mine)

Recycling Symbol #2 ? HDPE
High Density Polyethylene

Properties:
Low temperature flexibility ?appropriate for snap assemblies
Frequently used as opaque containers because of high crystallinity (up to 70%)
Good rigidity for stiffness of screw caps
Impermeability to many chemicals including gasoline and bleach when treated during processing.

Acceptable for food contact
Good processability
Good impact resistance
Good toughness
Flammable
Subject to cracking due to stress
Not great with temperature extremes
Low to very low cost
Sensitive to variations in thickness

I had mine read 400+. Apparently the buckets leech chemicals. Can't trust them.

I believe there were threads on here that says they do.

I changed the buckets where I mix s/w to the Lowes food grade ones and left those for old w/c buckets.

I've been using these HD buckets to store RODI and saltwater mix. I thought that a high TDS reading on these were due to leftover salt, etc. when I previously used them.

I have to check mine when I get home today. any long term problems if I keep using them? I really don't want to buy a bunch of buckets again.
