Ok so is it inevitable? Is this proof enough that my sps are going to turn to sh*#!

Good pic right:skull:

I have heard of people trying to treat for aefw and dooing more harm then good.
I have also heard people still getting them after quarantining.
I was planning to dip in Bayer starting tomorow and putting back in DT.

I don't have a QT and think things will be more stable in the DT.
Has anyone done this and had good luck or am I looking at a brake down in the near future?

I have not seen any Aefw and no signs when blowing of sps with turkey baster ?
I have a coris wrass is it possible he is keeping them in check?
But my fear is a pic sais 1000 words :( someone please tell me these aren't aefw eggs

from pics I see on the net they sure look like it,I see the way you keep your tank,if you got.. it seems its a sure thing everybody will get something at some point,it seems there is more things out there to harm coral than anything else.with all the holes in the live rock I think its impossible to not get any pest of some sort. I wounder how nature deals with this sort of thing in the wild..I notice my stag is getting lighter in color I gona have to pull it and check, damn it seems theres no good way of dealing with these things the one branch has a strip cut out like your pic I hope I dont have fw too.. I am thinking I got it from one of those maricultured colonies. My tank was fine till I added a few of them.

Those are aefw eggs, I would clip that piece and throw it out, go through all of the acros in the tank as well and clip all the bases off, and dip them and inspect them

Rob thanks!
you say the bases is that we're they normally accumulate ?
I discarded that stag when I found it a few days ago.

Yea, they usually lay the eggs on the bottom, so what I do is when I get a coral I clip the base off and throw it out. It also makes cleaning the coral much easier, those mariculture plugs are nasty, lol. I clip the plugs off all Sps now just to be a bit safer.

Hey MikeC
Sorry to hear about this issue. Man those eggs make me feel sick too. Ive had only red bugs as pests so far with my sps, and am following along to better qt new pieces to the tank. Keep us posted after you dip it.

Sorry to to hear this Mike. About two years ago when I got red bugs. It was only a 24 gal when I first started SPS. I learned to set up a Qt and put in all new SPS. From frags to small colony's. I keep them in for 6 months.
I would save as much as I can by cutting them. Don't even glue them. So you can inspected them. Dip and QT in new tank. Than start breaking down tank. Start all over again. I started a new QT that's cap off and after a few more months because I'm done buying SpS. I will than open cap and run Qt system in main tank. It's 27 gal cube which is my frag tank now. Just keep going and you be back better than before.

Well I diped what I could this morning in Bayer and i can only count three adults but let me tell you after a hour and a half they are still moving around it the dip container.
I used 2mil per every 4 cups for 15 min.
I'm not about to start chiseling stuff off rocks. It's just to depressing :irked:
It is what it is I'm not ready, or set up to do a brake down or hook up a QT tank.
I need to do some planing and not jump right into a upgrade.
I'm going to maybe get my hands on some acro crabs and ride it out.
if the acros start turning to sh** I will toss them and when there are no more accros they will have nothing to eat.

Mike I had them in my old 120. I dipped corals that were visibly affected by the worms and left everything else alone. I would turkey baste all corals once in a while. Everything grew and remained colorful. I may have even rid the tank of them this way? Point is don't stress. Many beautiful tanks have/had aefw's and are still look awesome without breaking down and QTing.

IME larger corals will outgrow the damage that aefw can inflict. I've only had small frag become overwhelmed with bite damage.

bayer works on red bugs but not so much on flatworms (not at all for eggs). you can try strengthen the dosage but with treating sps the saying "the treatment may cause more harm than the disease" is so true.
i recommend dips only for new corals since dips does not eradicate the pest that's already in the tank.
