- Nitrite? or Nitrate? Which of these is the fish killer

- Coral banded shrimp Reef safe? I was told they pick on polyps.

Nitrites are the quick killers, but high levels of nitrates can also be deadly, especially to inverts.

Welcome to MR.

Nitrites should not be in your tank in the long term. Everything should be converted to Nitrates by the bacteria in your live rock and over time they will build up to dangerous levels in the water.
