fas917 - Most people on here talk about canal plastics but I've never been. Pretty much you can just do a search on here (I'm pretty sure someone made a list), look in the phonebook or search the internet. Or you can look at the manufactures website for dealers. I like using cyro cast acrylic.

Acrylic!

Kimoyo,

Hello. What are you looking for? I'm not really into the selling of acrylic business but I do have access to some. If he's looking for the standard 1/4" I can help him out with that. Kimoyo, on another note I built Chris' sump which you didn't have the time to complete  thanks for throwing that business my way. Hopefully he'll post some photos shortly.

Thanks:approve:

Good for you! I'm glad you could help Chris out and I would love to see pictures of your work! If your interested in my work there are a lot of detailed pictures up on the site. Did you make it out of 1/4" :Yikes:? I didn't realize I threw his business your way, I pointed him to Wingo who is a vendor on MR. Did Wingo recommend you to him? I'm no longer a vendor on here so I don't sell/make sumps in that capacity. Once my vendor status was over I felt it was best to follow the rules of the site and not operate in a vendor capacity anymore. The acrylic stuff is a hobby for me.

I was specifically wondering what brand of acrylic you have access to and use?

Acrylic!

Kimoyo,

Hello. I'm not a Vendor either. Like yourself this is only a hobby for me too! Chris' sump was made out of 3/8" acrylic. That was a nice little project with a lot of detail. I'll try to get him to put some photos up. I'm sure a lot of people can borrow from his design because it was nice and very thought out. He loved it because it was done in less than 1 week and I saved him $100 from what you quoted him on your price :D I use CYRO cast acrylic among others. I'll try to post some photos of my work when I get home because I'm currently at work at my real job.

Thanks:tongueani

Wow, you only saved him $100 with 3/8" thick acrylic? I was doing it in 1" thick cyro for him (which cost me 3x the amount of 3/8")! You must have made around $150-200 more than I was making on it. Was it cyro you were using or a non-domestic brand? I didn't realize people were making those types of profits, I should have been charging more.

Regardless of having a second job or this being a hobby, like its is for several of the other current vendors (HOF, Wingo), if you are making profits on jobs then you should (and supposed to) be a vendor. Why not help the site out that is obviously helping you, especially when your pm'ing people for jobs? And then you can have the added bonus of peopling seeing the quality (things like no-bubble seams and edge work) of work your doing on the side.

Acrylic!

Hello,

Kimoyo, you're very, very. very, funny! First of all for something of the size of his sump why would you first tell him he needed to buy 1" acrylic??? :supermad: Like you said its very excessive (4 x $$$) and much more than he needed??? Did you need that material for something that you might have messed up on your own maybe a personal tank or something  You quoted him way too much $$$ on his project to begin with. I told him exactly what he needed and what the costs were. Second, the guy waited for 3 months with you and you had to eventually refund him all his money because he grew tired of all your excuses. He put out a thread looking for someone with experience with acrylic. I PM him like probably a few others and he chose me. I gave him a time frame of 2 weeks which seemed like a minute for the time he waited over 3 months. I finished his sump in less than 1 week and charged $100 less than he originally was quoted with YOU!!! As far as being a vendor I'm not out there looking for jobs but if somebody needs someone who's experienced with acrylic I will answer there thread to help them out. In return I would like to be compensated for my time. This is a hobby for me which I enjoy and there's been many of times that I've given away my bought acrylic to others for FREE! If me saving Chris $100 makes you that unhappy I might just have to become a VENDOR!!! :lol2:

Thanks:biglaugh:

:backtotop

the best place i found for acrylic was this sign supply store on allen st.(chinatown)
its somewhere between hester st and division st.
but they sell mostly 4x8 pieces at very good prices...
theres a bunch of sign stores in that area that will sell you smaller pieces....

Custom King,

I don't make excuses, it is what it is.

Goodluck and Godbless, I'm not selling anything on here and you are. I have no reason to talk about Chris, he's a good guy, I just talked to him on the phone and we are one the same wavelength about our interactions, which I've also talked about on the board already. So let me make two things clear he had his deposit back (plus some extra money for any inconvenience) within 3 weeks (not 3 months) and I don't stock acrylic and ate the cost of the 1" acrylic I specifically bought for him which is still in my shop.

Just a little advice, you might think you win by arguing, but as a vendor I would never argue on any board. I'm perfectly fine with having this discussion because I don't sell anymore. But attacking other vendors, when your a vendor (albeit a stealth-vendor) is not a good idea. Since I'm no longer buying acrylic in the quantity I had been I thought maybe I could get some thru u and is why I asked what type your selling. But you obviously want to talk about Chris's sump and cost, well okay.

Chris told me how much he paid and in 3/8th's I would have charged him $150 less and I have a feeling you get your acrylic for cheaper than mine with it not being domestic. My quality is on point and I doubt anyone does it better but if you do, then I happy for your. You must have made at least $270 on that deal and if you did, why are you not a vendor? I know the mods have already talked to you about it and with that type of money your charging it surprises me you wouldn't give any back to the site. By you pm'ing him and numerous others is what make you a vendor.

As far as why would I would do it in 1", well thats because he wanted it braceless (which you can see from his drawing), but you put a brace on it. And when he removes the brace which he just told me he was thinking about doing then it will bow and cause stress on his joints regardless of what he thinks. It doesn't matter what he thinks, as an acrylic maker you have to know better. I was going to do it in 3/4" first but I wanted some practice in 1" so I ate the price difference because I like him.

Thats the reason people have issues with acrylic tanks because of vendors trying to get the more money while lowering prices instead of making the tanks structurally sound. Then when they bow and scratch easier people start bad mouthing the material and not the maker. But keep on with your 1/4" specials if you want.

BTW, fas917, domestic cast is what you want. I helped a vendor dismantle a huge tank made by another stealth-vendor in the beginning of October that I believe was made from imports. Started coming apart at the seams, here's a pic.

Import acrylic plus bubbles causes troubles.

What thickness and what the sizes you want. Do you want to cut them yourself or I cut it for you?

My shop is in Flushing but does not have everything in stock. Therefore, when I don't have them and Manhattan is easier for you, then I would just suggest you to go Canal plastic. If Canal Plastic no longer cut plastics, try E&T

Flushing HD does not cut acrylics nor does Manhattan HD carry it.

That looks like the maker did not realize the edge has to be smooth (too big a gap and filling too much solvent=weak bonds)and that he is using the wrong solvent for the wrong acrylics(the chemical reaction is not complete)!!!

Acrylic,

Kimoyo,

Look I'm not hear to start any arguements or get into any debates with you. I don't know where this went sideways but it's not getting either of us anywhere. You can ask anyone who has done business with me in any trade, sale or anything that I've built for them what kind of guy I am. I started by saying that I was fortunate to do work for Chris from the blueprint that he provided. It was a job that you originally had that fell into my lap which I thanked you for. Thanks once again. After that it got twisted. Like I stated I don't sell acrylic but I do get access to some at times. If I can help you in purchasing some let me know? I can get other thicknesses reasonably priced other than 1/4" Depending on what you need I would hook you up with someone else who's buying the same thickness as you and you both split the costs unless you're buying a huge quantity. That's all that I was trying to do with you and with this thread. Depending on what this person needed I would get it for him at a discount and probably have it cut to his specifications.

Once again Kimoyo, I didn't mean to rub you the wrong way and if there's anything I can do for you or anyone else feel free to ask.

Good Luck:biglaugh:
