Increasing water level of tank

I just want to check something before I do it. I want to raise the water level of my tank higher than I did when I initially set everything up because I think it's a little low.

So if I make sure that I match the salinity, temp and PH of the new water with my tank water and put it in it won't increase salinity will it?

Just wanna check before I stuff aroudn with things

What kind of drain`s do you have? Is it a reefready tank, is it drilled with drains in the back glass or do you have overflow box`s?

no it's not RR so no drains. I don't even have a sump yet, but will be getting an overflow this weekend.

So if you want to increase the level just put more water in making sure that you keep it the same temp. & salinity.....

yeah that's what I was thinking --- just wanting to make sure. I know I'm meant to use fresh water for refills but seeing as I'm exceeding the previous level, than more salt is ok. thanks alot

Unsalted water is used to make up for evaporation..so yes, you are correct

You are using ro or rodi water right?

yes I am. I must confess I didn't for the first two months but I've changed about a month ago and everything's improved!

i didn't change all the tap water I used, I just started using a rodi unit and did a large water change

Instead of an overflow box, Drill the tank it's so much better...lmk

yeah I know...but it would be a major major pain with all my livestock and LR in it... I would love to drill the tank though...

I also is gulity putting tap water in thinking tap conditioner would be good but I just got a good to unit so how much(maxium)water change should I do I have a 54gal

There is no such thing as maximum water changes. Your tank will thank you for all the water changes you can do.

For those of you who started with tap water, you may still see the ill effects long after many water changes, as the rocks will soak up some of the bad stuff that comes with tap water.

As for drilling the tank, it can be done while there is water in the tank. I drilled mine while it was still running! :approve:
