Everyone pays a set price except for children and it is hard to verify a significant other but if you could It would probably be a good idea to discount that person.
If I were an event organizer it would be a snag to see someone bring a guest and you know that person is just doing it as a way to get around the full price.
You definitely should not be losing money to organize the event Josh.

"Everyone pays a set price per person" makes MR management much easier and attract only the people who are serious enough for this hobby. It will also make the life easier for some attendents who wasted time looking for his or her "significant other" and MR lost admission fee unnecessary.

Everybody should pay except for kids.
this will be profitable for the site but won't help those who have families that will like to come, There some people who barely even come nerveless bring somebody, i say pay alittle more for plus one. and when you state kids what would be the kids age limit, i don't know about you, but i have a 17,8,4

I would set the age limit for kids as under 12. Once they hit their teens they can eat as much as an adult.

Good point Dave.

I was thinking if every person that walks through the door has to pay an admission fee, maybe it should be less than what we normally pay when we pay for 1 member + 1 guest.

For example if we paid $20 for a member and 1 guest, if we pay individually it should be like $15 per person. And a kid for this event I would say is anyone under 18.

I think a door charge is fair but cost of parking should factored in ( if applicable ) when deciding a price. As far as kids, I think its a great way to get them involved by giving them free admission. I dont know if food is free at the swaps, but what about not charging admissions ( or charging lower ) and then charging for food ?

From what I've seen at previous swaps, charging for food wouldn't be a great idea. The food line always seems to be the most popular thing and its always LONG and SLOW.

If we charged for food inside it would create an even longer line and even slower service. And since the swaps are always usually jam packed, creating a large, slow moving line wouldn't work out too good.

BTW when is the next swap?
Nov 23 at Pace University, downtown campus :)

Parking is what you find locally and hasn't been much of an issue at the locations we hold our swaps. Many members take public transportation, so it really hasn't been a factor.

As Kris mentions, the food is always popular at the swap as so many folks make a day of it so they don't miss the great speakers and Auctions and Raffle (hint, hint...lol), so we need to keep that included in the pricing :)

The best we might be able to do at this swap is set up 2 locations for food so the lines aren't quite as long, but space is always tight with all of the great vendors and so many members participating :spin:

I think if bring a guest for free, especially if that person is not really into reef or salt water tank is a better bet. You may be able to attract people not into the hobby or people who are nervous or hesitant to make that jump into the wonderful world of reef tanks!!
