Is there a place where it would be appropriate to start a thread where people could sensibly speak their minds then since this thread is being kept on a certain topic? I never understood why true political discussion is always controlled on forums, but I do know that professional politicians like it that way...

I chat on Washington Post, CNN... when they started a comment period for an article and some other Newspaper wedsites outside of US to get better views from outside the circle. I particularly like those blogs with politicians online that I can get more direct understandings of their minds.

Politics could be so additictive that it's is like people are talking about their idols. There just too many people getting too extreme and some just like to stir up the mood by giving wrong informations, accounts of things without moderation. Ironic as it may seem, I just found out an hour ago, someone(who said he is a mercenary) on a topic for 2 months in youtube, was giving accounts for an program I was involved in but completely opposite of what I know during the time I was in the program. So an unmoderated forum is very hard to get real info while too much moderation will get one sided info too.

BTW, the tone of this thread has been kept pretty good and civil.

Oh, dod you guys also participate in the coffee cup poll by Seven Eleven?

I wont get into my shpiel on either candidate because I dont have the time or space. I'm running a voter registration and education drive in school right now and our motto ( stolen from a t-shirt I saw once ) is " Democracy is not a Spectator Sport. " Like a poster said above, if you dont vote, you can't *****. However watching a debate or reading an interview with a candidate is meaningless. They use those opportunities to repeat the same lines, bash their opponents, and say what is most popular. If you really want to judge a candidate, review their voting record. Actions speak louder than words, correct? Also dont forget your other elections going on. The average citizen is affected a lot more by his US senator and representative as well as State and local officials. A great, non-partisan, resource for educating yourself about candidates is http://www.votesmart.org/. You can put in your zip code and get a list of candidates running for all offices, along with their bios, voting records, speeches, etc all in a user friendly format.

The way i see it:

Obama

Pros: INTELLIGENT, young, no creepy smile, step forward for our country in terms of racial acceptance.

Cons: wants to basically eliminate income tax for 45% of the population, wants BIG government, my grandmother has more military experience, wants to raise income taxes on businesses that are already paying the highest income taxes of anywhere in the world...and in the next breath says he wants to keep businesses in America, health care plan

McCain

Pros: Older (read ~wiser), has actual military experience, spent years in prison in Vietnam (patriot?) Has realistic tax plan, has realistic views towards relations with Iran/Pakistan. Wants smaller government

Cons: Thinks it would be a good idea to buy up all the mortgages people cant afford and sell them back to them at market price (worst idea ever), creepy smile, SARAH PALIN, health care plan

Im still a bit undecided, but the Sarah Palin VP pick might be the nail in the coffin of the McCain vote from me

i could tell just by the obama rant that you were voting for mcain and your a business owner.not that its a bad thing but come on if it wasnt for the middle class and paying our ridiculous income tax (which by the way 45% of my income goes right to big brother)this country will be in big trouble.

Just remember to do your research and
a.) be an educated voter. don't let slick slogans, media spots and speeches decide your vote. RESEARCH the candidates TRACK RECORD (very easy to do with the website I provided ) since actions speak louder than words.

b.) dont neglect your other elections. Most people don't realize that the executive branch of government has the least direct influence in most citizen's lives. Need a road repaired, a school funded, property taxes lowered, etc? Contact your local elected officials. Most of them stay in office because of inertia. The average voter doesn't know anything about these people but votes for the familiar name on the ballot ( i.e. the incumbent since their name will be most recognizable ).

I'm doing a write in for the sake of both me and my fish. If either Obama or McCain win it's just going to be the begining of the end. I like their VP's better than them. hmm can I vote for Palin/Biden?
